Help needed with trailer turn signals

My trailer turn and stop lights have quit. Factory 7 pin plug. No left or right.

My initial troubleshooting, beyond tripping the airbag light, finds no power going to the two relays under the hood. They are being turned on /off as normal, but there is no power to them. The large 40 amp fuse, no 16, has power in and out, and is not blown.

Does anyone know where the splice for this is at?

Thanks rd

Look here and see if you have all of these fuses, this is for a 2000, but it might be the same for a 97

The 97 is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT fromn the 2000. The indicated drawings and pictures pointed to will be of no help.

Check fuse F2 in the mini-fuse panel. It is between F16 and the relays' NO contacts.

Go here and download the owners manual.

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

It is under roadside Roadside emergencies.

I Had the same exact problem b4. there is a mini fuse box, right next to the big one under the hood, it is wrapped in electrical tape from the factory, take that off and you will probably find your problem.

Thanks. My truck does not have the mini fuse panel behind the main underhood panel, it has the mini fuses in the main panel, and the relays in the separate box behind the fuse box. But the owners manual shows the separate mini fuse panel, and gives no info on the relay box.

From Alldata, and from searching here, I learned that the stop/turn relays are fed from the big fuse, via a spliced wire that goes to the mini fuse. I thought I checked the mine fuse, but I may have gotten sidetracked when I realized I had screwed up the airbags.... Apparently this is powered via splice 110 or 111, but I have not gotten and idea where it is physically located, and I am not really interested in taking the main wiring harness apart. I may just jumper power to the relays and see if they work.

I am going to check it again one night this week.

I've always seen the mini-fuse panel on very 97 I've ever looked at. remember, it's the small, 5-position box (only two are used) located back in the corner where the firewall meets the fenderwell, exactly as described in the owner's manual. Your relay box is exactly as mine and your remark concerning the lack of documentation concerning the relay box has also been noted.

The minifuse box is in the upper right of this photo. Covers have been removed. Look for the RED plastic.

Doublecheck what you have, something doesn't sound consistent.Perhaps you have a very late 97...What is your production date from the door label?
