Does a 1997 F150 with power windows, locks and mirrors have a GEM? If so where is it located? Ford couldn't tell me LOL Thanks

Yes it does. Generic Electronic Module is for controlling things like 4x4 shift on the fly, delay wipers, interior lamps, accessory delay items to name a few.

On the -'03 MY trucks, the GEM is located on the back side of the cab fuse panel. Bolted right to the back of it.

Nice dealer you have there

Directions Steve posted on the cab fuse panel removal, to give you a better idea on where it is at.

SSCULLY I wrote earlier about a power window dilemna. Well I replaced the master board and worked great for a few days. Now again sometimes the left window won't work in the regular mode or one touch. I also have a different window motor that sitting in the garage. I was told the GEM regulates the left window. If so is there anyplace besides Ford to purchase one. I don't have any other electrical problems beside the window. Thanks a million.

The GEM does control the left window.

Was the master window switch you got new ? This sounds like what happened to my '06, which was a faulty master window switch.

2001 Power window, should be close to the same on your MY. Note where the switch is triggering the GEM, and the GEM controls the motor use.

SSCULLY The switch was off a damaged vehicle that supposedly?? the windows worked fine. Now this morning the left window won't work again. Drive it around and it will start working. Does Ford or anyone sell only the switch?? By the way it is a new relay also. Thanks

Any of the online places carry them.

1997 -> Ford -> F150
Mechanical Catalog -> Electrical -> Body Electrical -> Door -> Interior Trim

MSRP : 39.20, online $ 25.87 ( for Tasca, there is also 150partsguy here as a support you should check into ).

What online site are you referring to for the switch? Here's maybe a twist, With the ignition switch on if I push the button like I'm closing the window with the window already closed the voltmeter will show a draw, but nothing when I try to open it. $25.87 is a good price.

Online sites ( no specific order )

www.oemfordparts.com
www.tascafordparts.com
www.thinkpartsguy.com <- site sponsor
http://www.fordpartsonline.com
www.directfordparts.com
www.fastpartsnetwork.com

That function with the switch still points to a bad switch. Mine would operate one way fine, but the other no go. I really had to mash it to get it to get, and then the day I got the new switch, I tried it and nothing, dead in one direction.

Funny thing like I said SSCULLY, I turned the truck so the drivers side is on the sunny side. An hour later the switch works???? It's cold here (northern Illinois) Thanks for the sites.

Don't have to tell me, I am next to ORD, it is still nice compared to few weeks back with -10, or what ever it was we had ( damn cold all the same ).

I would guess that switch has been WD-4's or contact cleaner'd, and it is gumming up in the cold ?? That is a SWAG at this point.

Tasca has it as a price request for the 1997. Sorry I gave you the wrong side.

any 1997 to 2003 for your cab type would work from teh description. Go to a 21003 MY truck, same as above :

Window switch, f150, front, left, w/o super crew - f150 1997-03, heritage 2004 - F150 1997-03, HERITAGE 2004 02-04 $81.60 $53.86

Have not seen any, but I have not been by a breaker to check. maybe call Victory in Bensenville ?

There is another on St Chas in Lombard, drawing a blank on the name. Between Maple and Grace.

That's $15 cheaper than LMC! Thanks. That switch is from Tasca? My trucks getting rough on the edges (real rough in some places). I only put about 4-7 thousand miles a year on it now I'm retired. Like to fix her up alittle.
