Exclamation Automatic Headlights on 05 F150

I have a 05 F150 with automatic headlights. I am going back to college to get my automotives degree and during one of the labs I pulled fuse 107 and 18 to disable the auto light feature to do some "experimenting" with the job sheet that I had to complete.

Prior to doing this, my auto headlights turned off in 30 seconds and now the headlights take a minute and a half to go out. I have used the Genisus and the Ford version (can't recll it right now) and the only thing I can do is test the system.

There are no DTC's that come up in the system stating that there is a fault. I later found out that it is a customer preference as to when the lights go out. Is there any way to rest my lights to 30 secs without going through the dealer here? They want $200 just to "flash" my computer!

I do realize that worst case scenario, I will eventually have to do this but I am hopeing that I don't. Needless to say, if I don't have a problem with my truck, I don't use it as a guinny pig anymore!

Has anyone ever heard of or had this problem?

From my owners manual:

Autolamp control (if equipped)
The autolamp system provides light
sensitive automatic on-off control of
the exterior lights normally
controlled by the headlamp control.
The autolamp system also keeps the
lights on for approximately 20
seconds or on vehicles equipped with
a message center, you can select a
delay from 0–180 seconds, after the
ignition switch is turned to OFF.
• To turn autolamps on, rotate the control counterclockwise to .
• To turn autolamps off, rotate the control clockwise to .
If your vehicle is not equipped with a message center, then the auto
lamps can be programmed manually by:
1. Start with the ignition in OFF and the autolamps selected.
2. Turn off the autolamps by turning the headlamp switch to .
3. Turn the ignition to ON.
4. Turn the ignition to OFF.
5. Select the autolamps by turning the headlamp switch to .
Steps 2 through 5 must be performed within a 10 second period. At
this point, the headlamps and park lamps will turn on.
6. Deselect the autolamps after the desired autolamp delay time
(maximum of 3 minutes).

At this point, the headlamps and park lamps will turn off.

If you have the message center:

Autolamp delay
This feature keeps your headlights on for up to three minutes after the
ignition is switched off.
1. To disable/enable the autolamp
delay feature, select this function
from the SETUP control for the
current display mode.
2. Press the RESET control to turn
the autolamp delay ON or OFF

Mark's advice was dead on, crazyboy! I'd be looking for a different dealer from now on, if you need any work done.

Not sure what job sheet you were working from, but you killed power to the BSM / VSM by pulling CJB fuses # F18 & F107.

Any non-NVR setting you had where shot.
Check your other settings as well ( if you did any ) like auto door lock, and seat belt chime disable.

Other settings like a person code on the door key pad entry, and RKE fob programming are NVR settings, and survive a power loss. Your owners manual might have a note of this ( older MY owners manuals had the note about seat belt chime disable needed to be redone after a battery change / disconnect ).

I appreciate all the feedback on this! I did in fact look in the owners manual (never thought it would be in there) and it did rectify my problem.

However, you were right on it SSCULLY about the other settings. I have an after market remote starter that I had installed and now it doesn't work! It just started doing this. The funny thing is that when I drive the truck for a limited time, get out and remotly lock the doors, it works. But if I try and use the remote start, the doors don't unlock and I hear the door lock motors "pulsating" but it doesn't unlock the doors. I have to manually open them with the key.

I am going to look at the schematic for the remote system and see if there is a blown fuse or another "electrical nightmare" lurking!

Thanks again for the feedback.

Check the section of the owners manual on battery change. Some have a procedure you need to do after a battery change. Don't know why the PCM fuse should have anything to do with it, but worth a look.

I had already done what the Owner's Manual had said when I replaced my battery. I took a closer look at the Remote start system, when you push the keyfob button to energize the remote start, there is a "clicking" coming from the "brainbox" of the system its self.

SSCULLY, the owners manual stated that an aftermarket remote start system will not work with the coded key system that I have, but it has worked before. Do you have any idea as to whether or not this feature somehow disabled itsself?

The system that I have was installed in 06 after I bought my truck and has since been upgraded.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Sorry let me try to be a little more descriptive , I was talking about the owners manual for the remote start.
Some have a procedure that you need to do after the battery has been changed in the vehicle. I am guessing that the power for it was ont he same circuit s the BSM/VSM. I could be wrong here.

The truck's owner manual is talking about the PATS system ( I guess ) and if you have a PATS bypass, that is not an issue.

Got me what the remote start is doing, I only a little bit about the Factory version of the RMST .

Do you have a like to a pdf version of the RMST owners manual ?

I guess I should have known that you were referring to the remote start owner's manual. Problem is, I can't find it anymore and I don't remember which model I have.

I do not have a link to the RMST pdf. It might give me some insight though for this one. Can ya post it for me?

Thanks

No it is made by Python but it is an older model. I am kind of hopeing that they use similar wiring. I may be going in the wrong direction this way though!
