Lost cruise control on 2006 FX4

I thought I did my homework on here concerning the LED upgrades and having problems with the cruise, but I must have missed something

This weekend I put in a recon LED third brake light, line of fire light bar, LEDtronics bulbs in the tails with the EP27 flasher

Everything behaves fine, the new flasher seems to make the turn signals pause for a quick second before they blink, but it doesn't appear to be a concern

I've seen alot of searches turn up with people losing the cruise after adding LED bulbs to the factory third brake light assy, but I thought the recon units avoided this problem? I'm assuming this is the cause, but could it also be related to the LEDs in the tails or the flasher?

This is on a 2006 FX4 supercab 5.4L

Thanks!

I would think this to be a problem with all 3 bulbs that you have installed.

Quick test is to change the CHMSL to a standard bulb, and see if the problem exists.

The problem with the flashers pausing prior to start working, don't know why that is, but considering you changed the flasher in the truck I would suspect that is the source of the problem.

I only changed 2 bulbs, one in each taillight. The CHMSL was replaced as the entire unit (recon). And the flasher had to be changed to accept the LED bulbs, the normal flasher thinks you have a bulb out causing them to flash super quick.

How would I begin to determine how the flasher is related to the cruise control?

Pull the LED CHMSL unit out, install a bulb in the factory housing, and reinstall on the truck.

That is the test you need to do for the CC.

The statement about the flasher has nothing to do with the CC. You posted about how the flasher does a pause, prior to standard operating.

The CC worked prior to the change to LED. If you return it to the factory config, and it works, the LED add on, are what are causing it.

My bad, musta misinterpreted that last one

I'll try it out tonight, will the cruise light come on if I just push the button? Or do I have to be moving above 45 or somethin like that?

CC won't set under 30 mph ( or ~ 50 kph ) indicated on the cluster.

Just thought I would share my exchange with the recon representative, for any of you other guys with the recon LED third brake light.

Hi,

I recently purchased a smoked LED third brake light and line of fire
for my 2006 F150 off your website. My order number is 18736. Upon
installing the third brake light, I lost the cruise control function
on my F150. I took off the recon light, put the factory unit on, and
the cruise worked again. Is my unit defective? Thanks for your
cooperation.

Eric

No, the unit is not defective. The led's do not have any resistance,
therefore the truck thinks the lights are out. You have two options, return
the third brakelight, or live with no cruise control

Wow this is your customer service? It would have been nice if you
advertised this on the website intead of saying it's "Direct
plug-n-play." Thanks for misleading me and offering no reasonable
resolution.

Eric

Add a resistor, not sure of size but I think people have fixed this before. Not sure where you got yours but my LED 3rd brake light was like $30 on ebay and CC works fine.

I am quite shocked the shift interlock is working.

You really should put a stock bulb back in somewhere. If you try a test of pulling one of the brake bulbs, you might find your shift interlock does not work anymore either.

The other option is to install load resistors, there should have been some with the kit.

Other then that, get used to no CC. It is not a Chevy where it will operate without brake lights.
