Recent alternator fix-maybe not fixed?

Just purchased a 2006 f 150 xlt v8, 4.6 liter with 22,000 miles on it, and a week after purchasing it the engine light and battery light went on. After taking it in, I was told it was the alternator, so they replaced the alternator, which was not a ford oem. So here are the problems i'm running into now, 1. when i turn the key to 3/4 the engine light and battery light turn on with a little wrench light, when i turn on the car the lights go away. 2. i've noticed the car rpm's a little high, not sure if this is normal, at stop it rpm's anywhere from 900 to 1200, i've also noticed that when i accelerate the rpm shoots up fast to 2000-2300 instead of a smooth transition, is that normal?

put a volt meter on your battery and it should be between 13.5 and 14.5 volts, if not you got a bad alt.

Let me make sure I understand what is going on, kind of hard to tell, some clarification questions here :

2006 f 150 xlt v8, 4.6 liter

New alternator installed ( non Ford )

1. when i turn the key to 3/4 the engine light and battery light turn on with a little wrench light, when i turn on the car the lights go away.
Do you mean by the key position from the manual ?

Are you talking about the cluster self test ?

2. i've noticed the car rpm's a little high, not sure if this is normal, at stop it rpm's anywhere from 900 to 1200, i've also noticed that when i accelerate the rpm shoots up fast to 2000-2300 instead of a smooth transition, is that normal?
Depends on a few things, how long has it been running, is the AC on, etc. Under what conditions does it idle at 900 RPM, and at 1200 ?

When you say shoots fast, as in the truck's RPMs are not that amount ?
This could have something to do with your trans question, depending on what you mean by this.

Are there any other modifications to the truck ?
