what about Borla?

Does anyone run a borla muffler out the side of a 4.6? I know they are expensive as CRAP. But borla always makes a great sound. I'm deciding between borla and a magnaflow si/do.

Borla IS da' shiot; but expensive.

I know Magnaflow is the Popular choice here, but I prefer Gibson personally and consider it a close second to Borla at a more reasonable price...

I've always liked the sond of Borla on V8's, but they are very expensive. I have not idea what the design is like of their mufflers. Magnalfow is popular because they are very high quality at fair prices and are designed with the best performance in mind.

Borla's are about the same than Magnaflow's . . . .

For Example:
$119.95 for a Stainless Steel Borla 40349
(3"SI/2.50"DO 19" x 4" x 9 1/2")
http://www.exhaustproslinc.com/borhemsin3du.html

-vs-

$109.23 for a Stainless Steel Magnaflow 14288
(3.00"SI/2.50" DO 18" x 5" x 8")
http://www.exhaustproslinc.com/mag5x8stainm.html
($5 less on bigexhaust.com)

I would not call 10 or 15 bucks the difference between "very expensive" and "fairly priced".

BTW - the borla's were recently on E-Bay for $90!

Yeh, the cat back system is a whopping $579.99 or something real close to that. that is outrageous for a muffler, pipes, and tips.

Muffler vs. muffler for making a custom system, Borla is fair on price like you say. But I have no idea what design the mufflers are. The single system (comparable to Magnaflow) looks like it is $429 on sale (maybe their regular price though) vs. $379. Not as bad as I thought, but that is the cheapest price I have seen for a Borla stainless system.

So, about $50 difference. I personally don't like Borla tips, but obviously every has their own opinion. I'm sure it has outstanding quality and will outlast the truck. Performance wise, I don't know if it iwll be a good as Magnaflow, or we'd be hearing a lot more aobut it on these forums.

It's worth pointing out that for the extra bucks you get a complete stainless steel system from Borla vs the aluminized pipes from Magnaflow. . .

I thought Magnaflows full system was stainless too. Otherwise, they'd sell their system for much cheaper. A 3" SISO muffler is about $100 or less, and a 3" universal aluminized tail pipe is only $43, and a tip is about $50. I could be wrong, though.

97Blue,

The Magnaflow system will bolt right up to the 97. The exhaust just exits in a different location if you still have it in front of the rear tire. There may be an extra exhaust hanger or two you'll need, but if you have a shop do it it'll be no problem.

All the 97s had side exits in front of the rear wheels. In 98 Ford moved the tips to behind the rear wheel. Most of the 97s were recalled to have the tips relocated. In response to this Borla probably stopped making the earlier version. I have the earlier version on mine. I carried it over from my 97. A rare system indeed.

Borla Exhaust

I have the one for the '97. It is the best thing I ever put on the truck. Everybody loves the sound and the looks. I think the number is 14627. If you can afford it, I would get it.
