Post Open Exhaust

Hey, how's it going.

There's an exhaust accessory that allows you to have an open exhaust system by pulling on a lever or wire, which opens a valve and it redirects the exhaust gas out into the open air, but when the valve is clossed, the exhaust passes through the cats and out the back of the system. It looks like a little "Y" pipe. I've seen the ones with the wing nuts, but I know that there is one that you can open from inside the cab by pulling on a wire or something. Has anyone have any more information about this?

Cool

J.C.Whitney has sold these for decades. It is cast iron, weld in, dash/cable operated, fits 1&3/4"-2&1/4". It is part #24ZE1628R; $21.95 . My experience with it is that the valve seal is not of exceptional quality or lifetime. Good Luck !

Wow -- flashback!

My buddy and I put a set on his 1960 Dodge 383 back when we were Juniors in high school.

We skipped school (Detroit), and went to Canada for the day, where we 'opened-her-up' on the Queen's Highway 401 -- only to melt the silver-solder (or chewing-gum) that held the little flapper on it's pivot.

Well, we made it back to school the next day where I borrowed it during lunch, only to be 'tagged' by the local cop during a burn-out in front of the high school.

I'll never forget the cop's exact words when he walked up to the car: "...Good afternoon, a little noisy, isn't it?..." he asked, just before giving me my first (court-attendance-required) excessive-noise-exhaust ticket.

I'll second that comment about the valve seal issue (but that *was* 35 years ago).
