Smile Gibson Super Truck Install

I installed a Gibson Super Truck Cat Back System yesterday on my 97 SC 4.6L. It was extremely easy to do. I was done in 20 minutes total. And I am not the best mechanic in the world. I prefered this systems exit location as it wouldn't look like every other truck on the road. It fits the stock hangers perfectly. I would suggest for ease of installation using a sawzall and some jack stands to support the muffler as you cut the pipe. I also cut off the hangers between the muffler and the rubber bushing. It made for much easier removal.

As for the sound...........it's perfect. Not too loud in the cab, but really grumbles when you step on the accelerator. The truck no longer feels constipated under acceleration. Idle is just right as well. I would highly recommend this system for anyone who wants to do it yourself and save some money as well as increase there performance.

JBRIII...always nice to hear good news about Gibson exhaust systems as I am in the market of purchasing the "Swept Side" system for my 2001 Supercrew 4x4 (4.6L).

The Gibson "Swept Side" seems to be the best system out there "for me"...great HP and Torque gains while not an increase in sound and looks stock!

Enjoy!

2001-

Thanks for the reply. I looked at the swept side as well. I wanted to try and install myself and the stock system exited before the rear wheel. I found this to be the perfect replacement. No welding needed. If I had a rear exit system that is the one I would have chosen.

I would imagine it will be just as easy to install yourself if you want to. Enjoy your system as well.

Thumbs up

JBR, good to hear someone else has found that the Gibson Super Truck is great. Although the system is not recommended for HEAVY towing, the performance gain, sound, and looks are super! Your right, the install was easy, but I must say without my sawsall getting the factory system off would have been tough.
Don't you love the look of those little rice burners beside you when you go WOT!

Just checked out the Gibson side swept location and look, looks real good. Here is a shot of the way I did my Ravin. Kind of a side swept super truck look.

Yeh I only had 2fords until that Cobra snuck up and bit me. Seen it in the paper one morning and had to kick the wife off the phone so I could call on it. The price was right and I've wanted a 93 Cobra since they came out. I probably should try to change my user name to 3fords or tri-fordecta!

I could, not sure how I would record it. Try goravin.com, they may have sounds.

2Fords,

Shouldn't you change you name to 3Fords now? I agree with your comment on the sawzall. Wouldn't have wanted to tackle it with just a hack saw. I'd probably be still sawing away. Best fathers day gift I ever received!!!

Hypertech chip going in tonight.

Question

JBRIII

Where did you purchased your 75mm BBK TB? How much $$$? Easy installation? Any comments or advice?

JMTruck,

I got the BBK from Summit. It was around $215-$225 with shipping. It was a simple switch. Took about 20 minutes total. There is another thread in the engine section on this today. They are porting their manifolds, but they also have supercharges and are tryibg to gain every advantage.

You will need a metric hex head socket set for installing the BBK. Everything lines up really well. Be careful not to stretch your throttle cable out when reinstalling.

I've noticed some increase from it, but I'm not sure if it's $200+ worth. I wanted to try it because when I had my 93GT Conv a switch to a 65mm really helped. I think the most bang for your buck would come from a chip first. I wouldn't discourage anyone from installing this, I guess it just depends on your goals.

Hotshot,

I have a digital camera, but unsure how to post here. Do you have e-mail? It's dirty right now. Several days rain. I love it though.

Hey guys, check out ILUVNOS's "DYNO RESULTS" in the V6 forum. He dynoed his truck with a Gibson Supertruck exhaust and then he dynoed his truck with a $13 Cherry Bomb muffler from the auto parts store. The results will amaze you! Maybe even scare you! Taxman Check it out!
