Question Magnaflow Or Flomaster & Why?

Saturday I am having a si/do exhaust put on my 2003 5.4 Screw. I was (and may still) going to have the shop put a Magnaflow on but now am considering a Flomaster. So, Magnaflow or Flomaster and why?

I really like my SI/DO Flowmaster 40 Delta Series, nice deep sound at normal driving and sounds great under power. All a matter of taste, both are name brands and would do the job. I'm sure you will get a lot of opinions, some will even say one brand is "junk or no good" thats BS if a brand was junk or no good they would no longer be around.

What are you expecting with this new exhaust? THe three recomendations for Flowmaster are the same ones I have heard from every other Flowmaster owner - they like the sound. Flowmaster = unique sound that many people like. Not one thread have I read that said a Flowmaster owner chose it for performance. If performance is a priority for you, I recommend some kind of straight through design.

i got an extra 1 mpg as far as that goes and as for horsepower and torque i don't know its seems to feel a litte more powerful but i think its just the cool sound making you think that.

I thought that I could tell a little difference in performance also, about the same that I felt on my last truck that had a straight thru glasspack SI/DO.

Flowmaster

The 40 series SI/DO Flowmaster works great for me, especially with the Iceman cold air intake. Sounds great and drives great.

Question

I've read all the posts about which cat back system and here is my question...I want performance, and I don't care much about the sound except that I don't want it to be obnoxious. What are my options without removing my cats and being illegal?

Thanks for the help!

This is my opinion if you want performance and a nice mellow but authoritive rumble i would sugest you go with BORLA. I myself DO NOT like the sound of Flowmaster they are obnoxiously loud and if you get the wrong series of Flowmaster it will sound terrible. Another good choice would be Magnaflow not sure exactly what they make thiers out of but the BORLA is made of T304 Stainless Steel and carries a Liftime warranty and they stand behind it.I put a Borla on my 1988 F150 and it still sounds as good today as the day it was installed, I also have Borla on my current truck 1997 F150 and to be perfectly honest with you I would not buy anything else again this is strictly my opinion. Here is a picture of the Borla Tips on my 97 F150

I have the flowmaster cat back, great sound and a noticable increase in power. Definitely impressed.

Cool

HI!... I have had both FLOWMASTER and MAGNAFLOW exhaust set-ups on my truck. I totally hated the FLOWMASTERS. They were constantly cracking and rusting. I did'nt care for the sound and they drowned like crazy. I had true dual exhaust with two straight in/straight out 2.5" 3 chamber FLOWMASTER mufflers. I also lost a TON of low end TQ when I installed this set-up. I did'nt realize it until I installed the MAGNAFLOW's. The MAGNAFLOW mufflers I have are a straight through design and a bit quieter that the FLOWS but a 10 times nicer sound. They are stainless steel so they won't rust. If you going to do a totally new exhaust system I strongly suggest to you to go true duals with a "X" pipe and high flow CATS. If you can afford headers go for it. Check out my GALLERY for pics of my new exhaust system and what my FLOWS looked like after 3 years. Just my opinion.

Neal-

What gaskets/bolts do you recommend for your headers?

mf150 If you are ordering the JBA headers I would use the gasket and bolts that come with the headers I have never had any problems with any of the bolts backing out or gaskets blowing.
