Thumbs up NO MUFFLERS!!!

I wouldn't have believed it unless I heard it for myself, but going with no mufflers is the way to go if you want an awesome sounding truck. The sound you get gives you goose bumps. I couldn't have possible imagined that a 4.6l v-8 could sound like this. If it wasn't for this website and the people who talk about these things I would have never of know to try this. It is the best thing I have ever done. Now the next priority is to get a super chip. Thanks to all who posted material regarding exhaust topics.

Cool

Yep you are right! These motors sound a lot better (louder) than the previous F's with the 5.0L's. I couldn't believe how good it sounded when I got it done.

I recently chopped the muffler off of my 4.6 and I absolutely fell in love with the sound of it. It truly sounds like a big block. My only complaint is the loss of low end power. It defenitely took away from the grunt it had. Soon I'm going to put on a Supertrapp muffler. I've used them before on a motorcycle and a rotary mazda engine and love the sound and tune-ability of them. Once I do that I will try to post on the sound of them for everyone. And the performance.

Well I put the supertrapp on and it was definetely impressive. Not quite as loud a open exhaust but stilll a great tone and it got back all the back pressure I needed to have.

Cool

Is this all true, or is it a load? I tried
the no muffler thing on a 95 XLT 5.0 and it
sounded like crap, especially slowing down in
a higher gear while driving on the highway.
Does anybody have the sound available so I
can listen? I would also be interested in
hearing those supertrapps. That would most
likely be the way to go for me because I tow
alot and don't want to lose low end power.

Hey f150lover, this is for you. What kind of
mileage have you gotten since dropping the
muffler?

97Triton4.6, go to www.supertrapp.com to get info on what dealers are near you. I actually was lucky enough to find somebody that had a new one for sale still in the box so I got it for a great price. It is the type that mounts to the tailpipe. What I did was cut the muffler out and used flanges to put the supertrapp where the old muffler was at. For the record I am running a 4 inch disc system with 16 discs. But if you went with a 5 inch system you could go with less discs.
The only down side is knowing how many discs to run. If you can find somebody that knows what they are doing they can tune it properly.

As far as I know they are 50 state legal.

Good Luck,
Bones

TRAPPER, You know I haven't really figured it out, I have recently started running a higher grade gas. I do know that my wife has a 2000 Taurus and I get about as good as mileage as she does, and I usually have my foot in it just to hear my exhaust. Someone wrote that he lost his low end torque, I tell you I raced a buddy of mine who has the 5.4 and I took him. I tell you what you won't go wrong by chopping off your mufflers. IT SOUNDS SWEET!!!! people turn thier heads when you drive by. I have found that it my be kinda noisy when you are driving around town, but you can't even tell you have different exhaust when you and highway speed. I could sit here and talk this up all day, I love it.
