Loud Pipes

Loud Pipes
I have a 2000 F-150 with the 5.4L and I am looking at dual exhaust systems from JEGS or SUMMIT RACING that do not have mufflers. Is this the best way to get good sound and will I lose power by doing this. Also it says that for those kits the spare tire must be relocated. Is this true.

If you want loud, take a look at https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=108869
familyman put on True Duals w/ glass packs on his truck.
He had it done at a local Muffler shop, and did not note moving the spare tire. That should not be required if the shop knows what they are doing, and if you have a 16" spare. If you have a 17" spare, need to check on it.
The other option is to do true duals, forward dumps ( in front of the rear tire pass side ), no worries about the spare.
Either way when you take out the stock Y pipe, make sure to do up to the X pipe all in 16 ga 304 SS pipe. Don't skimp here with aluminized pipe, the heat loss can hurt the flow rate of the chst gas.
Mind you these are duals from the cat dumps back. If you were looking for a SI/DO system, ignore the Y to X pipe conversion part, the dump location is still the same options.
For amplification of the sound, go with 3.5" tips on the system, it seems to help increase the noise level more then the 2.5" dump.

Go listen to my clips on my website. This is a Y pipe after my cats, with 2.25" pipes all the way back to 18" 3.5" slash cut tips.
Now I am running true duals (2.5") straights with rolled cut stainless tips at 45 degree angle out the sides.
The 2.5" straights are bad a$$ sounding. I'll record as soon as I can get ahold of my brothers hand held computer..

Magnaflow universal tail pipes #15019/15020 for $80 plus shipping. Have them bent for side exit if you'd like.

It depends on what you wnat to do. The stock system has 2 headers, two cats per side, then they are joined into a single 2.5" pipe, though the muffler, and out the single tail pipe. If you wnat to remove the stock muffler, put in a y-pipe, then use these tail pipes, you can. Big Exhaust also sells Flowmaster and Magnaflow y-pipes both of which are good designs for reasonably prices, under installation accessories I believe. Or, you can cut out the factory y-pipe, run two new pipes up to these tail pipes. True dual with no mufflers.
