Post True Duals Texas 4x4????????

I've talked to several exhaust shops around here in Waco Texas and I can't find anyone whol will run true duals (2 pipes) all the way down the passenger side with a homeade H pipe in there somewhere, eliminating any Y pipes in the setup and exiting in the rear. Has anyone done this? If so, where did you have it done?
Thanks F150 Online!

Question

Jerod2000Lariat

With or without mufflers and cats? Without, I might understand why. With cats and muffler(s) shouldn't be a problem, unless they just don't think they can do the job it worth a flip. Can't imagine that...

75% of the shops around Dallas that I have talked to will install the true duals. But, like FamilyRide stated, if you asked them to run the duals w/o cats and mufflers, they SHOULD tell you they can't do it, because it's illegal. That's just the shop doing their job. I got quoted 600$ at one shop, to run true duals with FM40's. Most other shops are somewhere in the 500-600$ range. Hope I could be of some asistance.

Yeah guys,

running true dual exhaust without mufflers is illegal and most shops will not do it. Although I have found several that will do this setup for only $150 including 3" Chrome Tips.

I'm having true duals put on my HD, around $350 in SS. They are going to put the Magnaflow mufflers (2)in with bandclamps and sleaves and they are going to give me 2 SS blanks same length as mufflers. When I want I just loosen some clamps, slide out muffler and insert straight, clamp back down. We figure it would only take about 15 to 20 minutes tops to change it out, on a cold motor of course.

Running a "True Dual" setup on the 97+ trucks without mufflers is not illegal. The exhaust has, on BOTH sides, 2 oxygen sensors and 2 cats, the Y pipe is well after the last oxygen sensor/cat. Leaving plenty of room for a true dual setup. I have this setup on my truck. The only thing I need is an H pipe to balance out the exhaust and to replace my crappy generic mufflers.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'll try to look around a little more for an exhaust shop that will do it. Midas backed out on me saying that they lack the technical expertise. Oh well, back to the drawing board.

I've had my true duals with no mufflers for a couple of months now. I still like the sound. I split the Y & ran 2 1/2" aluminized out the back with 3" crome tips. It was about $250. They ran my pipes too close together to fit in a cross over tube, when I get time I'll fix it myself. The only thing the shop was good for was the bending. I don't have access to a bender but if I did I would have damn sure left room for a cross over tube after I split the Y. No tickets yet.

Cool

People here are always saying "true duals are legal", nobody has ever posted a Federal or State guideline saying this because there isn't one. Although not always enforced, it's against the law in all 50 states; each state can only make tighter restrictions over the Federal law. It carries a $25,000 fine to shops and a $2,500 fine for owners. The technicality is that it is illegal to modify the section of pipe that includes the cat. This includes from the manifold to the first joint behind the Y-pipe; it's one piece and not a bolt in cat like some vehicles. This is why "every" manufacturer makes true dual kits for Mustangs and "no" manufacturer makes true duals for the F-150, yet they have every other single-in configuration. It is also illegal to chop out the OEM Y-pipe and replace it with a universal one. Read this making note of #7. http://es.epa.gov/oeca/ore/aed/comp/jcomp/j11.html There are many online copies of the "exact" laws, this is a simplified one. I'm only trying to pass on the law; I'm NOT trying to say people don't: have them, get them installed, get them inspected, or gain performance from them. If you have a contradictory response, please include the legislation.

The "X" pipe available at http://www.spintechmufflers.com is better than a "H" pipe. Their system goes in place of the "y" that comes with the Fords. It is installed after the cats and then you can install two mufflers or one of spin techs two in and two out mufflers. I put the system on my expedition. It sound nice and seems to have improved torque off the line.

'98 4.6 - Ran true duals 2.25" out the back with an "H" pipe before two, 26" glasspacks. Nice, mellow sound, no drone, and no loss of lowend. $300 at a local 1 man owned shop.

Want a little louder, go 18" packs.
