Cool

Hi silverjpm17

I replaced the factory Y pipe on my truck and gained a noticable amount of bottom end and mid range power. I don`t know horsepower wise but i would guess at least 10 hp or better. If you look at the stock Y pipe it is reduced down from two and a half to two and a quarter were it is welded to the right side pipe, but the hole that is cut into the right pipe were they meet is only an inch and three quarters, also the angle were they meet does not allow for the best flow.

I hope this answers your questions.

Larry.

Thumbs up

The area of the "Y" where it reduces down to 2 1/4" is a dream compaired to what lies inside. Get the FM...it's a fine piece of equipment. Almost...SEXY. I had to fondle it for a few minutes before the install.

Question

Does anyone out there have some good pics of this mod?? I have seen the pics from the "nice little 4.6 exhaust mod" thread. It doesn't really look like they used the Flowmaster type of 'Y' collector. It appears to be more of a custom fabricated piece. It also looks like the drivers side part of the 'Y' was re-routed behind the torsion bar cross member. Is this the way that you guys who have done this mod routed the pipes?? I looked at the stock 'Y' pipe in my SCrew and what a POS. I want to do this mod with a FM 50 but would just like to see a couple of examples, maybe even print the pics to show the shop. Thanks in advance.

Question

Does anyone know if the "Y" on the 5.4L is the same as on the V-10? Reason I ask is I have an "02" V-10 SD on order that will be getting a Gibson Sweptside and if the "Y" is the same may as well do both at once.
Thanks

If you're going to cut out the Y, just put in a X pipe and go true duals. A DI/DO muffler costs the same as a SI/DO so why not? Keep pipe size at 2.5" and with the X pipe you will enhance the low and mid range as well as the top end. Just my .02.

Why go with a dual in/dual out? Spend the xtra $50 for another Flowmaster 40 series single in/out and have true duals. Oh yeah, don't forget the "H" pipe- or equalizer pipe...whichever you prefer to call it. Love the way mine sounds!!

Installation of the "Y" pipe would seem to give the biggest bang for the buck.
