Quiet torque

I want a quiet cat back system that produces torque for towing. Recommendations?

When you say "quiet" do you mean as "quiet as the stock muffler?" To my knowledge, most aftermarket performance mufflers are less quiet than the stock one. If you're looking into getting a performance muffler as quiet as the stock muffler, you'll be disappointed.

I too have been looking for a more free flowing muffler for my 03 S'Crew, and have been doing searching in this forum, but havent really found the answer I'm looking for.

Like Enigma, I want something as quiet as stock (maybe a little louder is OK), so I can get a little more power.

So on that note, are there any mufflers that will flow better, and not be too much louder than stock?

Thanks for any info.

Well, I did it.... Had my local muffler shop install a Magnaflow muffler with a 2.5" pressure bent exhaust cat back system. Yea, I know it's heresy not to go mandrel bent but at $189.00 installed out the door I am pleased as punch. Got out the creeper and inspected their work and I am very satisfied.

As far as sound. I am pleased. At idle very slightly louder than stock. Accelerating: louder than stock but not obnoxious like the flowmaster that was on the truck previously. In cruise mode at 55-65 on the highway I really cant tell much of a difference over stock. I wanted to keep it mellow. This is our family car. Mission accomplished.

So at freeway speeds, theres no additional "rumble" or droning in the cab?

Griffin,

Thats exactly right. At 55mph with the cruise on my wife and I can have a normal volume conversation just fine. Very happy. As I get older the quieter I like the exhaust. It is quiet enough that I have to tell my kids to tone it down in the back seat every now and again

Incidentally: I just computed fuel economy. Stock 5.4L: 4wd. K&N FIPK and new exhaust. 42 mi round trip commute to work on 2 lane country backroads with a few stop signs thrown in. 14.7 mpg with air conditioning on most of the time. It has been a scorcher.

Sounds like what I'm looking for.

Any idea what kind of steel the F150 exhaust uses? (mild steel, or stainless, or ???)
