custom exhaust problem
I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get a custom dual exhaust with 4.5” chrome tips and a Magnaflow muffler. I saw and heard a truck in the parking lot that had this. It looked real cool and sounded even cooler. But I just read an article on Magnaflow’s web site. http://www.magnaflow.com/05news/news/mffvscat.htm
I’m glad I read this first. I want performance, looks, and sound in that order. I will now have to decide, before I talk to the guy at the exhaust place tomorrow, whether I want to now get the magnaflow single Cat-Back system that is out right now for the 2004 f-150, or wait for a dual Cat-Back system for the 2004 f-150. In other words, there is no way I’m going to let these guys put their custom exhaust on my truck. I spent too much money to loose performance. Does anyone have any input on this?

Well, are you getting true duals on it? If not. you should be ok. If you are putting true duals on it, jsut make sure you get hte right size pipe and your fine. I have 2.5 on mine, which is to big, and i lost bottom end. Im bettin if i'd have put 2.25 on it it would be so little you wouldnt even notice.
I suppose the magnaflows are about the same in performance. personally I would go with the Dual one jsut for looks. Probably sounds alittle better too. I dunno

I've made my mind up. I'm not going to go with the custom exhaust. I'm going to get the Air force one Intake kit for 2004 ford w/3-valve 5.4 v8. This will add 17hp (so they say) and is half the price. I will wait for magnaflows dual cat-back. It will look and sound just like the custom one I was going to get but it will be dyno tested and should add 14hp. I just hope they I don't have to wait to long for it. thanks Bartak1 for your input. I'm also going to get mud flaps, an access tenaeu coverfront and rear light covers, and 12inch dual racing stripes to match the arizona begze two tone pain I have. I also resently got line-x bedliner, and tinned out my front windows to match the back ones. When I get this all done, next week (exept for the exhaust system ).

Hey man, sounds cool. Are you gonna lift it? What about a chip?
When they say it adds 17 horspower that means it will probably only add 3 HP.
It was probably a better idea to go with the Magnaflow too, probably alittle better performance. Plus stainless steel(i think)
Where are you gettin the AF1 intake that it is half price?

it's $259.95 and the custom exhaust was going to cost $500.
I'm propably not going to lift it. but I might also look into a set of crome 24 in wheels with new brakes but that will probably be next year (2005). I also don't want to put a chip in because I don't want to void the warrenty.

chips can only void the warranty if you go to the dealership and leave the chip in...the chip is only hard to put in the first time because you have to get all that sealant off the computer terminals, but after that the chip slides in and out with ease, so i wouldnt see the big deal about getting the chip as long as you dont forget to take it out before you get it serviced

Bartak, where can I get more information on the Hypertech tuner? I'm looking to increase the power in my 02 F-150 5.4, but would like to do it without running expensive 92+ octane. I wasn't aware there was a product which allows the 87. Thank you.

The Hypertech tuner doesnt Im pretty sure(or so it says) and you can still run 87 octane instead of Premeim 93 if you want.
Bartak, where can I get more information on the Hypertech tuner? I'm looking to increase the power in my 02 F-150 5.4, but would like to do it without running expensive 92+ octane. I wasn't aware there was a product which allows the 87. Thank you.

If you are wondering what the 'dual fuel' thing is, it lets you choose either premium or regular.
I also talked to Mike Troyer fromTroyer Performance , who sells Superchips, and he said they can custom burn a chip for 87 octane at no extra cost.
