x-pipe vs. h-pipe

I was wondering if someone knows and/or could explain the difference in the h and x pipe.(other than one looks like an H and one looks like an X)

Basically what do you gain from each. Is one more for sound or is there a performance difference with one vs. the other. I have an H on my mustang and plain old true dual on my truck. I was wondering if there would be any benefit to put in an X on my truck.

Also, if there are any other threads on this subject please let me know

Thanks,

I take it that you already know that both improve horsepower and sound by balancing the backpressure in both banks of your engine. The difference is in flow and design. The X is a updated version that has better flow characteristics which in turn is simply more efficient in all aspects.

The h and x pipes will give you different torque and hp - you need to choose based on what your goals are. I had an x-pipe on my '94 GT and it drove my mechanic nuts. The h-pipe would give better high-end horsepower and torque (trans. - better for racing) while the x-pipe was better on the low end (better for pulling). Put the pipe in that meets your needs.

I've heard the opposite of what ^^^ said. Simply put, a crossover would make a little more power than without. I'm sure it helps improve the sound too.

It gives you a more linear torque curve throughout most of the driving range (i.e. from 2000 to about 4500). GREAT torque. I went from a SI/DO glasspack to a full new exhaust using 2 high-flow cats, new crossover pipe, and an X-pipe... WOW what a difference.
