Question Before Or After The Tire

Should I put my dual exhaust tips before or after the tire? Pros, cons...anyone have any suggestion? I had it before the tire on my Nascar f150 but I heard it would ruin the tire.... Is that true?

i would go after unless you have chrome wheels..........the oxidation will polish off the chrome wheels but it kinda sticks to the factory finish on the alum. but it looks way cooler in front so guess its all on you!!

go after, my friend has an early 97 model with the factory pipe before the pass side wheel. and it sure discolors the aluminum. and the only that center cap is a nasty green color now that will not come off.

My 97 has the stock exhaust before the wheel - the stock wheel shows no problem - and it looks very cool!

i have mine after the wheel in the stock location with a 4" polished stainless bullet tip, after a few trips offroading it looked like i sandblasted it, i am going to fabricate a daul infront of the tire so this wont happen again

Go after the tires my friend, straight out the back. The longer your pipes are, the better it will sound. Picture a trumpet, then cut the pipe down on it and how does it sound? Not too hot. Same is true with your exhaust pipes. I have a SI/DO with a Flowmaster muffler (straight out the back) and it sounds great. I can't believe the number of compliments I've had on how good it sounds.

i've had my exhaust in front of the wheel for about 2 years and my wheel never looks any different than the others and will always wash clean.and yes i have 17" aluminum wheels.i think it sounds better that way plus it was easier for me to do it myself and you don't have to worry about gettin too close to brake lines, shocks, etc.and i also don't have to worry about backin into somethin or comin down a steep hill and crimpin my exhaust

I want to run duals. One exit before the tires on each side. 35 gallon gas tank. Honestly, will the pipe get that hot to melt the tank? I have plenty of clearance. What's the minimum distance would anyone run a pipe under that tank? I know...get my head outta my A@$. But, this is what I want. Would I need a heat shield?

Is it true that the shorter the pipe, the louder the exhaust note?

I want to do the before tire exhaust on my 04 F150. Really like the look, but I want whatevers going to be louder.

go with the dual tips before the passenger tire. They wont get near as dirty as behind the tire, it looks better, and there is less restriction.
just got mine on last week, custom job with SI/DO flowmaster 50 series muffler and 22" long, dual 3 1/2 slash cut tips, mounted on their sides, so i have two ovals in front of the tire. sounds sweet, looks awesome just the way i like it

Ditto...I'm thinking side exit before the wheels on my /o4, but want to see what it would look like first...that goes for anyone who has forward/side exits...any pics would be great.

P.S. Great forum...
