Exhaust Noob Question: How's this price sound?

I just came back from my local muffler shop...the guy was offering an all welded MagnaFlow SIDO (12278) setup with dual 2 1/4" pipes and two 17" stainless tips out each rear tire corner for about $289 + tax.

This is my first venture out for an exhaust system and after looking at MagnaFlow SS cat-back systems that cost $500 (plus having to install it myself) I'm ready to jump on this beast...

I say go for it.I just had a12580 magna put on today for $300.It is a si/do but it is a 5 x 11 x 22 Which would be much quiter as the one you are looking at.I got 3" x 12" tips with a 45 degree cut running out together to the same as where the stock pipe was. I could post some pics tomorrow. I like saving some money and not dealing with a one size fits all bolt on mod.

It is more quite than I expected but that is better than being to loud.I dont really hear until I accelerate and then it is a light rumble.

Magnaflow #15036/37 Mandrel bent pipes: $90
Magnaflow #35105 tips $60
Magnaflow #14218 or #14221 $100

$250 in parts plus a few welds. $290 is fair, but I'd much rather use the Magnaflow universal pre-bent tail pipes instead of letting a shop bend them.

BTW, you should be able to find the #15749 all stainless system for under $400.

Magnaflow's website doesn't have the SuperCrew (CC) cab listed under the #15749 dual cat-back kit. (only the #15609)

Unless they have something wrong on their website...

People have installed the #15749 on their -03 Screws. Same wheelbase and dimension from axle to bumper as the Scab/short bed. I don't know if the 04 has the same compatability from Scab to Screw, but I imagine it would.

Thumbs up I Did It.....

well not me personally, but...

I went ahead and got a new Magnaflow universal 5x8x18" SIDO muffler installed (#12278) with 2 1/4" pipes out the back going to 3" x 18" Magnaflow SS 15° Rolled Edge Tips (Swept Side Exit). The shop did everything for $300 bones. Picts to come....

I love the sound, mild, but has that throaty V8 punch. The exhaust is almost silent at constant speed, but growls when you step on the gas.

I also noticed that my tranny shifts later now too.

More to come....

Minimum Clearance?

While I'm under the truck, does anyone have any advice on minimum clearance between the piping and anything else? 1/2", 1" ?

There are a few places where the exhaust pipe is close to the shocks and or exit near the rear fender and I want to make sure that they won't cause any problems.

Pics....

For all you picture fans...I finally had a chance (+ good weather to boot) to get under and take some pictures....

Picture #1: This is MagnaFlow's Universal Fit 5x8x18" SIDO Muffler (#12278) w/single 3" inlet and dual 2 1/4" outlets. The muffler is "Aluminized Steel." We'll see how long that lasts here in Louisiana...according to MagnaFlow, it's got a lifetime warranty.

Picture #2: Exhaust Duallies. Tips are the 18" x 3" MagnaFlow 15° Rolled Edge 304 SS Tips (#35111)

Picture #3: This is taken from the rear passenger wheel looking forward. While not an out of the box/bolt on catback system from MagnaFlow, my local muffler shop was able to provide the equivalent performance upgrade at about 1/2 the price. MIG weld beads were painted w/a high temp aluminum paint.

I really enjoy the mellow sound w/o the droning in the cab from say a Flowmaster 40 series. The MagnaFlow has the V8 sound, w/ the nice growl when you stomp on the gas...

Thanks to all those who gave me advice...I was really happy w/ the end results.

Tony
