dual exit or single same HP gain?

is the dual exit just for looks? does dual exit sound louder? will single exit give more of a power gain?
i want to install a single into a dual exit but i dont want to lose low end power. would i be better off with a single exit system?

I think the power increase is about the same between single in-single out and single in-dual out mufflers. I've got the single in-dual out on my truck and I am completely satisfied with the slight power increase I got. I sure didn't lose any low end power with this setup, so I seriously doubt you would either (have it installed on a 97 4.6). If you are really looking for a power gain, install true duals from the exhaust manifold back.
