Cool Single In and Dual Outs

This is what I am looking for in an exhaust for my truck. Cat-back (have ruled out true dual - $$$$) system, single in (2.5") and dual out (?.?") with chrome or stainless tips. I have priced a Flowmaster system ($300 US) and a Borla system ($950 CN) and have ruled out the Borla due to cost. The Flowmaster comes in only a 40 series muffler and I am concerned with loudness of the exhaust during my road trips and driving around the city. I want a nice "Mustang" sound but not monster truck loud that was why I was looking at the Borla till the price hit me. Any help and past experience would be greatly appreciated. Any sound bits would be very helpful as well.

Izzy:
The Flowmaster Force II kit does not come witha 40 series muffler. It comes only with a 50 series muffler. Please click on the attached link for details. It won't be too loud. https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000380.html

IzzyEddy,

Get a Midas performance muffler !!!

I have one, it's single in, dual out, and doesn't seem to be very popular with the rest of the F150 onliners. I've had the Gibson super truck on my previous '97, a Gibson side swept on my current '99, and finally settled for the Midas. It has a rumble between the two Gibsons that I just mentioned, and it won't rape your wallet.

-Kindest regards

Will be Superchipped shortly...

Cool

IzzyEddy, when I read your post I saw the same requirements that I told my exhaust installer; $$, concern over loudness during road trips and around the city, Mustang (I specified the GT)sound.

Here's what I ended up with... Single 2.5" in, single 3" out through 3" pipe exiting in the stock location with a 3.5"x12" chrome tip. The muffler is the 50-series Flowmaster with 'deltaflow' technology.

It produces a nice deep 'burble' at idle, roars under hard acceleration and turns into a barely perceptible low hum at cruising speed.

I had first priced dual systems from a number of companies - this setup only cost me $145.00-out-the-door. I saved enough for other goodies!!

Hope this helps ya,

selva1 - I was looking for the side exit for mine. I have a tendency to back into piles of snow during the winter months and I don't really like the look. I like the side exit much better. I called Summit Racing for a price on the Borla and noticed on the opposite page that there was a Flowmaster, I asked the guy if that system had dual tails and he said no. So I asked him if Flowmaster had a system with dual tails and he told me yes and that it came with a 40 series muffler. He didn't say what system series is was but the cost was about $300 US.

All Flowmaster kits for the 97' up F150 are "Force II", regardless of exit configuration. Force II for this particular application is always a 50 series. A 40 series in a Ford F-150 kit would be called American Thunder, which Flowmaster does not currently make. Your Summitt rep is mistaken. Believe me, if it were available with a 40, I would have bought it.

Cool

This is for a '94 F150 and I am not sure what type (Force or Thunder) of system the guy was talking about. I just asked him if they had one that exited on the side and had dual tails and that it was he said. I have the part number somewhere, I'll have to search for it again. Too many papers and not enough room for them all.

Mudder, sounds pretty good to me. What about hum or harmonics at freeway speed?

When I purchased my truck, it had no muffler with a y pipe and two Supertrap tips that exited right in front of the rear wheels. It sounded mean as H#LL!!!! It had a real throaty higher pitched Mustang sound but, definatley louder than Mustangs. Yes it was very fun to play with especially when a rice rocket or sports car pulled up on the passenger side. However the droan in the cab was more than I or my passengers sitting in the ext-cab could bear any longer. It wasn't too bad until you just wanted some peace and quiet. You can only immagine how loud it was with a load on the motor like when I pull a 20 foot bass boat. After 5 hours of listening to it, I could still hear it the next morning. Then last Friday I took it to a local good ol' boy here in town and had 2.5" straight pipe duals with a y after the cat ran out the rear for with 3" by 18" long chrome tips for $168 with tax. Now I could have the peace and quiet except for the 305 70 16 Goodyear Mud Terrains that like to roar a little. Not nearly as loud as Super Swampers though. Now my truck has a deep throaty rumble instead of a higher pitched one. I cannot hear it in the cab at all either. It sounds awesome and I wdon't think that I will ever put another muffler on any truck that I own. Just my two cents.

I have the 40 series flowmaster and it sounds great!
Hey Mudder, your sound wave is what inspired my install. Thanks great job!!
Some of the guys at work have compared the sound to the GT mustang. A couple of them(Chevy owners) kept bugging me to " turn her loose" lets see what it's got. After a couple of months of this, I did just that. The next day all they could say was "surprised me". I asked how loud the Flowmaster was, and they said " mostly what we heard was the roar under the hood" .

Have fun and Good Luck!!
