Post true dual exhaust question

I wanted to put true duals coming out before the rear tire on each side. The custom muffler shop said I would lose 20% hp and torque and that he couldn't run it on the left side in front of the tire because of the gas tank being plastic and the exhaust would melt it. I dont think theres any validity to this. Lemme know what ya all think...

I agree with the fuel tank issue. Even if it were a metal tank, I'd try to keep the exhaust away from it. Heat+fuel=bang! :O

As for the 20% power loss- he has no clue about how to design an exhaust system.

actually, power loss is common on true duals with these trucks. the wide open, free flowing nature of the true duals kills ur back pressure drastically and it kills ur low end power (torque), though i hear it helps in the high ends because of its increased flow (sort of ironic).

that 20% figure i think is way off, personally, maybe like 5, possibly 10

Above the muffler there is a heat shield, look at putting one between the gas tank and the pipe. Flowmaster makes a goodin Just a thought.
