'02 5.4L Best exhaust for mileage/performance
I have a 2002 5.4L 4x4 supercab. I am interested in boosting mileage and performance. I DON'T want it loud. I am looking at Flowmaster and am open to any brand. First, would I need an entire exhaust kit or would a new muffler do it? Big difference in cost, but I have no clue what difference in performance there is. What brands and models would you recommend?

If you want a good performing muffler and want to have a custom system done, check into
Ravin Exhaust And look into their Z33 series muffler. Ravins Main Site
I personally went with the Ravin Z33 on my 04 5.4L. Front exit side exhaust like on the Lightnings. For your setup though, since you dont want loud, check into the Ravin Z77 muffler. It will give you the rumble without the loud or the drone.
Check out my sig if you want to see some pics.

I'd also recommend that you consider Ravin.
I just got a Ravin z55 installed on my 01 supercrew 5.4, and it sounds great. No resonance and NO DRONE, none, nada, never, not at all.
You can't even hear the exhaust during highway driving. 55-60
Other than that you can hear a little bit of rumble, but nothing obnoxious. I have a supercrew, so I didn't want to make the interioir loud, the Ravin's were great. Low noise on the inside, and a nice mellow rumble outside.
Here is a post with some of my sound clips on it.. and pics.
