I don't think we have any 2 1/4" pipes in our truck exhausts. 2 1/2" yes, but I am not sure if that main pipe was changed to 3" for 99-up models with the 5.4L.

As for the loss of power I am still doing the same research since I am doing the same changes you are doing to your exhaust in december, but later than the 9th.

Good luck.

Speaking from experience with a 2001 Screw with the 5.4, the pipes are still 2 1/2". I thought they were 3" when I bought the muffler, and they had to make an adapter to go to the stock pipes.

Unhappy 3" Z55 Ravin Question

Hey Guy's,

I purchased a 3" SI and 3" SO Z55 series muffler. I will be keeping all stock pipes,
therefore Midas will need to add 2 small pipes to componsate for the 3" SI and SO.

Now I have hear of people losing low end power because of going too big in diameter,
but I don't know if that's too big all the way,
or just the muffler inlet and outlet?
I have the 5.4L engine.
I beleive it is 2 1/2" going in the stock muffler, and 2 1/4" out the stock muffler.

Will putting a 3" SI/SO muffler make me lose
torque or HP?
I am quite concerned about this now that I have read a few articles on this message board, as I am getting it installed this comming weekend. Dec 9th.

Any info greatly apreciated,
Thanks,

Mor,

Question

And???????
How does it work?
That was my question?
I have the exact same setup....
3" muffler, but stock pipes....
Do you have a loss of power from your 5.4?
Low end or top end?

It installs fairly easy, who ever installs it will have to make an adapter to go from the stock 2 1/2" to the 3" and weld it together. I do feel like I have lost a little bit of low end power, but that could also be because I have the Z-33 not the Z-55.
It works well for me I like the tone and volume, but am a little skeptical about losing the low end power. If I begin having problems, I will have to go and have the 2 1/2" muffler put on.
Hopefully I answered your questions, I am a little unsure what you are asking for.
