Which Muffler vs Price?

I got an 01 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 w/ 5.4L and am looking to get a duel exhaust. I called a few shops around and they all want to quote me about $300-$350 with 50 series Flowmasters.

I have been reading the forums and I see a lot of posts refering to Magnoflows and Ravins. I am assuming my local muffler shops are quoting me the 50FMs cause of their pricing/availability.

In the opions of you's who have expirienced the differences, should I insist on an alternative?

I am probably looking for what everyone else wants. I want a nice deep rumble outside without it being too loud inside the cab.

Which way to go?

Thanx!

Let me rephrase the questions… Is anyone unhappy with the FlowMasters 50 on their 5.4 SuperCrews?

Since that is what is readily available out here to me for $300 + tax, that is the way I am inclined to go. I won’t be doing the work myself. I have seen Magnaflow kits sell for $450 for a cat back. That’s a lot more than the FM 50s installed.

For the money, will I be disappointed with the FM 50s?

TX!

I personally would be upset with the 50FM, but I just dont like FM. Thats me. The Ravin mufflers are really inexpensive! I love mine!

I appreciated your input max, not sure why you deleted it.

I called even a few more muffler shops in the area and they to recommended the FM50s. Now, I can order the items online and get a great deal, but when I go to a place to have them install, they wont give me a break and charge me like 3 hrs of labor.

I found a mustang shop that isntalls Bassini's in my area. I might stop by there and see what they can do.

I deleted it because I don't recommend Flowmaster mufflers or that 50 series give a "nice deep rumble outside without it being too loud inside the cab".

I personally have a single in / dual out flowmast 50 series and love the sound quality of it. I have magnaflow 3 1/2" tips coming straight out the back which gives it in my opinion a little extra rumble if you stand behind the truck. Mine just produces a very light drone inside the cab that you can't even hear with the radio on. When I get on the gas, it really makes a nice, powerful sound. Great muffler in my opinion.

Price?

If you want to save money, find a small "mom & pop shop" ... they all have the same parts. The smaller the shop, the smaller the price. Tip # 1, bring cash. Tip #2, bring cash. get it?
They will pocket the money, and you'll walk out very happy. Also, Let them know you have cash before you make the order.
"Im looking for a dual exhaust, I've got 185.00 cash on me. Can you do it?"
85 - 90% of the time, they'll say HELL YA!
I did that and walked out with a Flowmaster and a 3" pipe installed under 30 minutes for 120.00 cash. Not bad.

Good luck.

The price seems a little high for a hack, err, custom Flowmaster setup. Peopel have reported on here $150-$200 for that setup. For $400, you can have a complete Magnaflow DOR system that will get you more performance than the local shop can do.

If you want a good loud deep rumble for the least money, id do what i did, cut out the factory muffler, weld in a Y pipe in place, and run dual tailpipes. Trust me, straight pipes on these trucks sound great. Its not wild raspy annoying sound like alot of people think, its a great sound. Plus, with this setup, you wont have to purchase an expensive flowmaster muffler, and if it turns out that its too loud or you dont like it (which you will), you can always buy a muffler and weld it in. Theres alot of guys, like me, that put on flowmaster, etc cat backs and end up cutting the muffler(s) out and are very happy with the sound.

I just found a local shopw that will throw on the 50 FM or a Magnaflow. If I understand the posts in these forums, the Magnaflows would be the prefered muffler.

So, if I am stuck at the $300 level, go with the Magnaflows?

California is WAY to strict over that sort of thing. That is not an option... unless this was trailered every where... but that is what I have a CJ7 for
