Post can removing your cat backs actually hurt your engine?

Hello. once agian i have a 97 gmc suburban, i bought it from parents so had no choice on brand. I had the mufflers removed so i have nothing from the cat backs on to muffle noise. Its really loud and I love it. I am thinking about taking the catyalytic converters off. I have a true dual. Someone was telling me that i shouldn't because i can actually screw up the air fuel mixture or something along that line. Do u guys know if anything can go wrong if i remove it? How about the noise factor. WIll that make it alot louder. I do like the truck loud but mainly i just want to know if i can run into any problems if i remove the cats? thanks..any comments are appreciated

Cool

The cats do cut down the sound some. The main problem is that it is against a Federal 50 state law. It is illegal to even replace them until 5yrs/50K miles without just cause. I'm not saying that some have not removed them. If you are already running no mufflers, you will not get much additional sound. (why pollute the environment anyway?)

i would not suggest removing these if your oxygen sensors are behind them it will reset your computer and lean your engine causing a loss of power...and like max said removing these would not make much difference in the s ound just the pollution
thanx
