What kind of advice is that? Loud does not mean performance. Vehicles ESPECIALLY like my Expy, NEED back pressure. Without back pressure you will not have the torque needed to pull such a large vehicle.

The best advice is the magnoflow like the other gentleman said.

UNless you have a vehicle where you are completely opening it all the time, is light weight with alot of power, i.e. sportscar, then you in no way shape or form should do that...

Its almost just as bad on some vehicles to run duals as that will not create enough and will flow so much that you actually will LOSE power from the too free flowing exhaust...

Hell, some with SUPERCHARGERS, THINK THAT CERTAIN EXHAUST MAY FLOW A BIT TOO MUCH. And those NEED high flow....

I have yet to hear of anyone getting more perfomance than the Magnaflow kits.

true, Magnaflow has the power gains, but if you want a loud system, true dual 2.25" or 2.5"straight pipes off the factory cats.

Just installed a Magnaflow 3" stainless catback system on my '99 SC 4x4 w/4.6 last night. The sound is awesome without being obnoxiously loud. Nice rumble at idle, fairly quiet during normal acceleration(you still hear it though) and a nice "growl" when WFO!

Took about an hour and a half, working at a leisurely pace, start to finish (removal of old, install of new, turn key and smile)

Zero! 3 SS Pipe clamps holds it together just fine.

I'm going to go against the tide here and suggest Flowmaster, simply because I like the sound. They do make their muffers in stainless steel now. 40 Series is a bit loud, 50 Series is nice and mellow but not too quiet. If you like bright stainless steel tips, use Magnaflow tips. They have the nicest looking/most durable tips IMHO.

It really comes down to how you define "best".

i have a friend who has a 4.6 and no muffler.it is not loud.my 5.4 was louder with all the cats in place and a muffler.if you want it to sound good and be able to hear it,run straight pipes from the cats back.you don't take much back pressure off by pullin off the muffler.yeah you would get better performance by replacing the muffler with an aftermarket(i would also suggest a flowmaster) but if you want somethin cheap that sounds good and still performs better than stock just run straights from the cats back.just listen to what some people say on here, they say runnin straight pipes is stupid but then turn right aroun and tell you to get a magnaflow which has a straight through design.that will really not put much back pressure on it so you might as well run straights.i say if you're gonna buy a muffler like that just get a cheap glasspack or somethin and be done with it,they'll perform just the same as a magnaflow they're just not made of stainless steel.i've ran my truck with open manifolds(about 100 feet to pull it in the shop to finish the exhaust)and it still had plenty of torque.runnin what i have now it still pulls the truck just fine.not to mention it will pull anything the suspension will handle.so don't worry about problems if you want to run straights from the cats back it will work fine.

How does the new Magnaflow system compare to the Borla single side exit system. They are both about the same price. How do the noise levels compare. I don't want a loud system, they get annoying on long trips.
