Cool

The shop that did my work, does custom work and they are very knowledgeable about Ford products. Their claim to fame is that they installed a custom stainless exhaust on Hulk Hogan's Viper. Anyway, My exhaust is stainless from the Magnaflow back. I don't think the Y pipe is stainless. I can get you more info or give you the number of the shop if you need it. Let me know if I can be of more help.

flats man,

thanks, dont think that your shop name will help (i am in nj) though.

got in touch with a speed shop today, gave me two places to call, one of which was meinike. called them, said they use stainless and said they mandrel bend. going tomorrow morning to get a price.

thanks to all for the help. will post again after the install. never dyno'd the truck so any feedback i give will be very unscientific. but i will give it non the less.

again thanks, this site and its members are beautiful.

picked the truck up earlier today.

i find this hard to believe, but i got more out of this than i expected.

i have noticed no low end loss at all. in fact, performance seems better everywhere.

just picked up a yard of cedar mulch (pretty wet) and was able to fly up a very big hill in 4th gear with ease.

got a yard last week, same hill, and the improvement today was very noticable.

dont know numbers
dont know horse power
dont know what improvement i actually gained

however i do know i am very happy. i never thought the difference would be as good as it is.

just a little follow-up post.

after i installed the cat-back i was getting what i heard termed as 'talk back' from the exhaust system. it was always after harder acceleration, and in the cab it sounded like the head of a 55 gallon full barrell of oil being hit by a drum kick pedal.

that is now gone with the y-pipe install.

i now also have a much nicer, throatier sound from the exhaust. i actually find myself driving with the radio off so i can listen to my truck. happy with the percieved perfromance increase as well.

this mod was well worth doing, and would have been much cheapier if i did not go stainless (but i am glad i did)

thanks to everyone on this topic for the help, couldnt have done it otherwise.

Hey guys-

Any of you have pics of your y-colloectors you installed. Just found this post and NONE of the pictures are posting. I'm planning on installing a Y collector and keep the Gibson I have presently. May go with Flats setup down the road, Thanks!

Hey Way2big- I think you are making a wise decision. I still have pictures of my old system showing in my album as well as the new system. I just installed my new exhaust traps yesterday and I feel I have the torque and HP back! Go to my album at the bottom of my signature under neath the picture and you can see a lot of other goodies as well.

Flats-

What type of Y-collector is that you have installed? I have seen that before but I can't point to it. Anyway got the flowmaster in today for only $33. Can't complain.

BTW, did your O2 sensors get moved closer to the cats? I looked at the stock setup and I looked about 10" from the cat. converters. Also, is it best to get as much of the stock exhaust piping out after the cats to increase flow to the collectors. Thanks!

Hey Way2big-$33 is a great price for a Y pipe! I believe my Y pipe was a Magnaflow. My O2 sensors were in the stock place and the shop you are working with will probably use as much of you stock pipe as they can. Good Luck!
