Question new truck... needs exhaust

just got my new truck today.. 2002 fx4 f-150 lariat 5.4l.. thinkin bout gettin 40 series flowmasters with the cats cut off angled out that back.. or either runnin straight pipes... i want it to be loud but i dont no if i want it as loud as stright pipes will be... should the 40's with cats cut out be good enough and have a nice loud rumble or either just go the cheap way and run straights which might sound like s***????or is there any other mufflers i should look into???

i wouldnt go straightpipes that would be too hillbilly and it might mess with your truck.. if you go with a 40 series muffler, you will have a nice deep growl. and it wont be overwhelming at cruising speed. all in all i think the flowmaster. or a similar brand would be your best bet.

I just put the original 40 series on my 97 150 4.6. I am very happy. I have the rumble I wanted but it is not to loud in the cab. I noticed it in the cab but it isnt that loud. I have been told if you get the super 40 it is louder in the cab. Which if you do any highway driving that could be quite annoying.

I got a flowmaster 40 on my 98 4.6. I just replaced the factory muffler. had to make my own hanger for it. It sounds realllly good at about 2000 rpm, it just growls!! I really like it, people turn and look when i got past, but not loud enough to bother the cops.
And at highway speed i don't really hear it.
I might eventually just put a y pipe behind the muffler and put dual pipes out the back, cuz the muffler is a single out.

dont get anything too loud

here is my theory with loudness, why get something really loud when your not even pushing 300 rwhp? i hate when i see a two wheel drive 4.6 thats way louder than me and i can blow his doors off and god forbidd if i grabbed him with a chain! i went with a siso magnaflow because its not stock but it lets everyone know i get only 15 miles to the gallon.

but the key to life is do what you want, your the one making payments.

Getting rid of the cats on a street truck gains you nothing. If the cat is in good shape, do yourself a favor and leave it in. There's nothing worse than sitting at a red light in the summertime, with all your windows open, and sucking down the fumes from your exhaust! Been there, done that, didn't like it much! You can get that truck plenty loud without taking the cats out. Use a nice muffler with a good size tip and it'll rattle your teeth out if that's what you want.

Personally, I like the sound of the Dynomax Race-Magnum over any of the Flowmasters....
