Whats the best muffler?

Hi, I have an 05 F150 4.6 scab, I want to an exhaust system but I think those bolt on kits are to expensive. My question is, what would be the best muffler to install in a custom made exhaust? I want sound as well as performance, don't we all.

Thanks

You'll get different answers. Borla, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Bassani, blah blah blah... just search the '04 forum for 'exhaust' and enjoy reading everyone's take on it. I'd say Magnaflow is the most popular in that forum. Happy searching!

Dang, dzervit, you sure are getting civil. Are you feeling alright? Someone boxed your ears or something?

Thanks
Go to your local muffler shop and have them install their own version of an existing catback system. My local shop installed the exact same system as magnaflows 16612 set up. They used 3" mandrel bent piping for the tail section and 3" piping before the muffler (a 5x8x18 magnaflow). Total including labor and tip was $240.00. I didn't think that was too bad. The idle, cruising and romp on it sound is perfect in my opinion.

To clarify my above statement the piping they used was aluminized, when I said exact I ment pipe dia., muffler, and completely mandrel bent. Personally I don't think there will be much performance difference between the two (aluminized vs stainless). Of course the stainless will cost more and last longer under harsher conditions. Where I live I do not need the stainless, and therefore went with the aluminized.
