18" magnaflow is what I have for my 05 4.6L, and thats the sound I was looking for... very deep and nice and noticable, but not obnoxious... I bought it online and had a muffler shop install it (dumped at the axle with stock pipe)... cost 120 total...

I got a Dynomax system. I love it great sound but not annoying. got the quieter one of the two. Got it at NAPA for $289. The only thing that isn't great is that the brackets to hold the pipes up are a little weak. I am going to get heavier duty ones soon. Easy to install did it myself.-AJS

Well if your looking for cheap you prolly don't want duals. So the cheapest way to get a good rumble out of your truck would be to replace your stock muffler with a flowmaster 40 series muffler. A muffler shop would charge you $80 for the muffler prolly $10 parts and about $20 labor. You could go with a cheaper muffler to but then your truck will sound like crap so it's not worth it. If you were looking to spend about $350-$400 you could do the same as above only with a single inlet dual outlet muffler with dual exit tips. This combination will give you more sound.

If your looking for the cheapest way with a nice deep sound I have a 99 150 with 5.4 and I removed the stock muffler and replaced it with straight pipe. cost like 10.00 then I just threw a muffler on come inspection time. I loved the sound.

I cut 2 cats off my truck and it made it just a little bit louder. It has a very deep tone, but it isn't really noticable when going down the road.

I haven't had any problems yet, but I just did it yesterday. I've heard that doing this can cause problems, so you might want to do some homework first. I didn't really have a choice, cause one of the cats was blown. I put a post in this forum asking if anyone knew about any problems associated with such a mod. but nobody has responded yet.

I went with magna flow, high grade stainless form the cats back with 4 inch polished tips. The sound is perfect... parts and labor was $330.00 in western PA., the reason I said in PA is because the same set up near D.C. was $700.00... Check out the pics...
