Me, I like single in single out. I have a K&N branded JBA system, stainless, and it has a hell of a good sound. I was just listening to a guy at works truck and he has a 99-01 say with single in dual out (i think) and small 2 1/4" pipes and it sounds pretty good, mustang like. I wish I knew what another guy had, it had dual to one side like a harley and it was loud!!!!!!!! I'll bet more was done upstream like 2 less cats, headers? Kinda looked like a gibson. This is another thread where everybodies different, but gives you lots of ideas.

Well this is how i see it on your question. Let your truck breathe. If u have more air coming in then let that air go out so u dont have as many restrictions. I would go with TRUE duals from the manifolds/headers back. I had this on my '89 F-150 and I seen a big difference in the amount of power. Well i hoped that this helps u out in your search.
