Well light came back on,,,Then I called TROYER to order a tuner and I asked if the tuner will cure my check engine light,,,She wanted to know the problem,,I told her she told me to call Airaid and ask for an enhanced tube... I called Airaid back ( I have been working with a rep since Wed.) .....Since the last time I talked to them. My rep. had talked to his engineers and they knew I needed the enhanced tube,,,so when I told him what TROYER said he already knew it!!!!! So they are sending the new tube out today!!!!!! A BIG THANK YOU TO TROYER AND AIRAID TWO GREAT COMPANYS!!!!!!!!

Not happy with K&N
Well, I installed a K&N air intake system, with plastic tube, on my 2006 F-150 XLT supercab, 8' bed, 5.4l. When you get on it, inside the cab it sounds for all the world like a lowing cow ! Just one long, steady, cow-like moaning noise. VERY weird. I e-mailed K&N and this is what I got back from Tech Support :
"Thank you for your interest in K&N products. The sound you hear
is common with intake systems especially on later model Fords. With the
increased air flow and the open element air filter audible sounds can be
created. The sound is dependent on engine speed, load, condition and
atmospheric conditions. Unfortunately there is no way to eliminate this
sound. If you purchase any K&N product and you are not completely
satisfied, you are welcome to return it to place of purchase for a
refund of the purchase price (Proof of purchase required)."
My translation : "Yeah, our intakes don't sound so good on some (a lot of) trucks, but we don't advertise that 'feature'. You can send it back - provided you want to eat the shipping & re-stocking charges. Oh, and the time it took to put it in and the time it will take to take it out. But we're betting you'll live with it."
And the heck of it is, I probably will. But they won't get me again.

AF1 noise
I had an AF1 on my '04 STX 4.6 and it made an incredibly annoying whistle from about 3500 rpms to shift. I just traded that truck in for a '05 FX4 S/C (need the 5.4 for towing) and am probably going w/ the Volant. I'm hoping the box enclosure will eliminate the potential for the loud whistle w/ the AF1....

The noise is coming from the throttle body, The stock tubes have mufflers on them,,aftermarket ones dont,,,so no matter which one you go with it is going to make noise, open filter or not, Now the question is which one to choose. I'm with ya a whistle would be annoying.. Mine makes a loud ROAR when I floor it! Other than that under normal driving its not bad at all..

oil va non oil
with an oiled filter u are catching more particles before they get into the engine. but the oil that gets sucked out of the filter accumulates on the mass air sensor.(simply cleanen it with every oil change and u dont ever get and problems.) I have an oiled 77 series.
with oil free u catch less particles but have a more restrictive filter to try to catch as much as an oiled can catch. Id rather replace the MAF than have buildup in my engine.
