The bigger tip is usually for looks. Sometimes they can make the exhaust sound a little different because the big tips act like a megaphone.

if you go with a system like the Roush Legal system, the tips are muffled to help cut down on the noise, etc.

The tip can make the difference. I believe its Monza tips that really have a massive change to the exhaust note. But a nice set of 3-3.5 inch slant cut tips look nice, sound great, and do wonders to cut the legs of unaware close walkers

I just like the look. I have a 4" single Magnaflow on my SI/SO setup and it looks great.

Agreed. Nothing like a sweet stainless 3.5"-4" tip.
Tips can definatly change the sound of a truck.

the tips really don't make it louder,if you go with a 3.5 or 4'' like everybody has said it'll make it nice and deep.just get some atleast 18'' long or it won't make as much of a difference

they clamp on to the last few inches of the pipe- the tips usually come with all the hardware necessary

if you are putting the tip on a stock system, you can either cut the pipe a bit short, or slide the tip over the existing tailpipe... the ones with holes it them- well 'supposedly' its to enhance sound and performance...you can come to your own conclusions on that one bud-
id say, cut off a bit of the existing exhaust, get a tip, and you'd be lookin good. yes, it just tightens with a wrench

Are you just putting a tip on the stock exhaust? If so, I don't think it will really make much difference in the quality or volume of sound. To make a significant change in sound you'd need to replace the stock muffler.

i mean, my main goal now is just have something to look nice and cover the rusty piece of pipe sticking out now with like black metal shaving and all around it... sound is later on idea but i ganna get a 20$ exhaust tip then work twords some all terrain tiers... so i can offroad in the rain and not have to wait for dry
