Straight or Side Exit duals for towing?

Spoke to the local exhaust shop yesterday and when I mentioned that I tow a boat they said that the new trucks run alot hotter out the exhaust and that I shouldn't go with straight back duals as they could heat up and discolor the boat? They recommended side exit behind each wheel. Can anyone confirm that this is a problem....I was hoping to go with the Maggie straight duals but....
Thanks,

This is correct! If you are towing, you will want your exhaust angled/coming out the sides.

You may want to go with this look for your truck. Duals out the sides

I'm gonna raise the BS flag on this one. Unless you plan on sitting with your truck idling for hours at a time and your boat sits about 1' away from the tips, I doubt it will heat up the boat enough to discolor it. I've been towing my boat all summer with duals out the back, in 100*+ heat, idling for 20 mins at a time in the same heat, and haven't had any problems on my boat with discoloration.

Actually? You are right, you probably will not have any discoloration. What you will be prone to is more resonance due to the exhaust hitting the boat.

Yeah...resonance is another story. Going up those long hills, it gets bad, but then that's why I keep the tunes cranked. Also, your Maggie won't resonate as bad as my Flowmaster 40.

Thanks everyone for their responses on the exhaust questions I had Well I finally took the plunge and got a custom Maggie (18") si/do side exit behind the passenger rear wheel. I finally decided on this set up for a number of reasons:
1. Magnaflow doesn't make a complete exhaust system for the Screw 6.5' bed.
2. I also have the 35gal gas tank so there wasn't very much room to do duals out the back anyway
3. I didn't want the lightning exhaust set up since it can discolor your wheel/hubcap.
4. I haven't seen too many of these setups locally.
Let me know what you think:

Now I just need the XCal2 and AF1.....
