I think the low-end loss would be minimal, especially with the cats still on. I'm looking more for the sound out of the straight pipe anyway, I don't know about you guys.

Anyone clear on the legality of removing the muffler?

In most of the places it's ILLEGAL to remove your muffler. However, if you keep your foot out of the gas most of the time and don't be stupid about it, chances are you won't get introuble for it. You might have problems passing safety inspections however..

just thought of this it may make u happy. u can just add an exhaust cut out i am not sure if they are illegal or not but u can open and close as u please or just leave open i guess and when u have to go to inspection or what ever. (not recommending or telling u to do this because if u get caught do not know if there are any big or small consequences) u can fine an old cat lying around some where get the body off of it and some how weld or very inconspicously get them to hold together so they will not be able to tell when u go threw in spection or something. if they even look.

Once al for all:

Will this set-up sound crackly: 2.25 true dual pipes with cats and mo mufflers?

I have not heard a definite answer on this yet.

Removing a mufler is technically illegal, and will not pass inspection. But again its one of those things that is easily looked over.

im about to do the same setup in a couple of days. my dad told me he was pretty sure that it was legal to run without the muffler. he said they dont look at anything past the cats. if it is illegal then just dont gun it and youll be fine, and when you go get it tested put a glasspack or something on. if you still want to know im most likely getting it in a coupple of days and ill tell you what it sounds like.

i just got it done a few hours ago. when it guy started it up i thought i heard it crackle a little but when i was driving it didnt crackle or pop at all. i thought it wouldve been really expensive but it was only 150. its not really loud when your idling, but you can still hear it. when you accelerate though, it is one of the loudest trucks ive heard. when i was cruising at the same speed (55 was the limit on the road i was on) for a while it wasnt too loud, almost perfect. anyways, if youre thinking about doing it i would definetly recommend it if you want your truck really loud.

$150 to remove a muffler? I was quoted $80 to remove my SIDO Flowmaster 40, and fab up a 2.5" Y-pipe to put in its place.

I too got all new piping. I also got some clamps and adapters so if I do need to put the muffler back on, it won't be a hassle. This is where the price came from.

he put in true dual exhaust though. are you going single pipe and a y pipe splitting it to duals? i asked for a price on that and the muffler guy said that it was 75$ to make a y pipe so $80 sounds about right to take a muffler off and put a y pipe in.

I am doing the same thing. I have a flowmaster 40series si/do and I want it to be louder. Also I have already smashed both 4inch stainless steel tips doing alittle wheeling. So I am going to get true duals and dump them before the axle. Then give my flowmaster to my dad to put on his F150. Well he is paying for them to do that to my truck since I am giving him my muffler.
