I was thinking life would be so much better if you could take air from higher up on the truck body rather than right from the wheel well. I dont mean like a snorkel I dont want to cut holes in the body. But can you add a pipe to take it further up the front 1/4 panel? Has anyone tried? Does anybody think its possible? I would like to make a mud friendly intake not to hardcore but one that would allow me to play with the bigboiz and no drink the water.

Well there really isnt any other place unless you want to run way down along the frame to back by the bed area and run a pipe with filter between the bed and cab...

Its hard to put what I am thingking about into words I will try to draw it out and take a picture. I would like to add a pipe in the 1/4 that would make a 90 degree turn into the top of the fender almost like turning the intake up and putting a roof over the top of the pipe. That way the water has to come all the way to the top of the hood where it meets the front window before it would collect water.Adding at least 5 inches to water clearance. Give or take. Like I said I will draw it out and try to add a picture.

I am not planning to sink her but I think that when you hit water and it jumps in through the front valance it gets pulled right into the intake. With the intake move further up the front panel, Like a said before you would almost have to take water up to the front windshield to get water in. As for this not being like a hummer point taken once you take a truck to the top of the dipstick yer screwed. I am going to try this weekend to do it and I will let you know what happens.

i know someone did an 02 or newer ranger (can't remember the exact year). he took a pipe from the intake hole up to where the vent is in front of the windshield. was a completely sealed system and unless you sink the truck up past the air filter you won't suck any water in.

search on ranger-forums.com. let me see if i still have access to the site. if i do ill get back on this.

I read the post from the ranger forum and the only broblem is I have no point to drill into on my vent. I did however try to move it like I said, and I did not work I am going to need more supplies but I think it will work and If it does I will share the info!
