Which Muffler?

I called my local muffler shop today, inquiring about removal of stock muffler and placement of Magnaflow. Cost of doing this, and reinstalling original tail pipe will run $109, plus tax. Seemed to me like a good price, but, I do not know serial number of Magnaflow muffler that I was quoted. I love the magnaflow sound thread of part #16616 that I have read about so much on here. My question is what is the part or serial number of the muffler in the 16616 package from magnaflow. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, muffler guy suggested to me of going with flowmaster 40 series instead? I dont know what to do, please help. I should mention that I do not want to spend $350 for #16616 to install--I would rather just insall muffler instead.

Flowmaster or Magnaflow

HiVoltage 14.4 What ever muffler you choose, have a Magnaflow Tru "X" x pipe installed (the Bassini is way to expensive).I have the Flowmaster 40 series through the x pipe and they dump just in front of the rear bumper.I have a nice throaty rumble @ idle but when I mash on the gas the cab fills w/a nice deep sound of power.the x pipe scavenges the exhaust and increases power very noticeably. I noticed the difference immediately when the x was installed. It might not sound like a Mustang but it will have a distinct sound all its own. Good luck whatever choice you make.

If you want noise go with Flowmaster but if you want noise only when you want it go with the Magnaflow, I would go with the Magi because I only want to hear it when I mash down on the peddle, I had a flowmaster on an old toyota truck I had and it didn't do a whole lot for the little guy only a very little extra pep.

Well I dont know what kinda of Maggie but I was also looking at the Flowmaster 50 series. Its supposed to be quieter than the 40 series. Whats the price difference between the flowmaster and maggie? Which Maggie fits an 05? Thats the first Ive heard on the x pipe. Remeber Im keeping my stock tubing.

If you want loud go with the Flows. If you want good sound get the Mag. Mag is the only one I have seen dyno charts on. +14HP and 23TQ sounds good to me. I also picked up about 1.5 MPG with my Mag.

I've decided to go with magnaflow. But, I'm going through a local muffler shop. My question is, what size muffler do I go with. It appears from the board that shorter and wider mufflers offer louder tone, is this correct? Please advise.

I'm pretty sure an 18" Magnaflow muffler is what you're looking for bro. Good luck.

The shorter the muffler the louder it will be. And The longer the quieter

Just had my magnaflow muffler installed----sounds great! Now I understand all the praise that magnaflow has received on this forum. I highly recommend. Just like everyone has said--nice mellow tone while cruising, ***** to the wall rumble when bruising. Next up for me is CAI and retrax bed cover. Please encourage me that it is ok to add expensive modifications(i.e. retrax) to a 2004 truck with 45,000 miles on it. Please...

WVU,
What was the part number for the muffler you got? As for your other mods you know we support them bro. The Retrax is nice but I went with the Access Lorado cover w/ the Bedrug. Glad to hear you are pleased with your results.
