AF1 Intake Installation On 07 Screw

I just took delivery of my 07 Screw, and decided to get the 3.5" AF1 put on tonight. The install went perfectly until I got to the portion of installing the locking screw in the heat shield (the one with the blue isolation piece.) It appears from the picture in the directions there is a ledge on the fender for this to engage into. On my truck it appears this ledge is not there (maybe a design change?) Has anyone run into this? I am not above fabricating my own bracket for an attachment point, but I wondered if there was a simpler solution. I am going to look at a co-workers 04' tommarow to see if I can figure out the difference.

hmm.. trussell, I just installed the 3" AF1 on my '05 Screw a couple weeks ago and you're right, there was a place for that screw to connect on mine.. I think it'd be an easy fab to make a bracket if it's not there on yours, but I'd sure think they'd have designed it right for your '07, I'd hope!

The K&N intake kit goes into detail about that little difference between the 05's and the 07's. Are you sure yours didn't come with some literature regarding that issue?

Bracket Fabricated

The only resolution I got was to fabricate my own bracket. I made it out of 1"x5"x1/4" stock. Tapped it for the AF1 6mm bolt and screwed it to the fender with a short automotive style self tapping screw. I ended up using a couple of washers to get the elevation perfect to support the heat sheild. If I had more time I would probably heat it and make a small offset, so I did not need the washers. It's mostly covered by the heatsheild, and hardly noticiable to the causual observer.

Humm, I was considering the AF1 for my 07. I'm mechanically inclined enough to fabricate a bracket, but shouldnt have to on a $300 part.

I agree 110%. You expect to have to make minor modifications on a cheap intake, not a $300+ AF1.
