2001 SuperCrew Cat(s)?
Hello,
I recently purchased my "Quality Checked" 5.4L SuperCrew from a local Ford dealer. The other day I was poking around checking things out and noticed a pipe clamped right after the intersection of the pipes from each side of the engine and a couple feet in front of the muffler where I would figure the cat should be... I have been reading the posts and noticed that some trucks apparently have two cats so maybe this was just a resonator... I suppose it is somewhat fortunate that we don't have emissions tests in my state AND that the truck is not throwing any codes... Any thoughts about whether or not this curious section of pipe should be a cat and the benefits/pitfalls of restoring the cat to its proper place?
TIA,
Layne

Hi ws6,
No, however, that looks very similar to my exhaust. (have you been climbing around under my truck???)
Now looking at that pipe balancer, there is that pipe clamp that the balancer connects to at the rear of that section of pipe. The pipe seems to be about a foot and a half in length and ends (starts?) with a second clamp at the front. I am wondering if this section of pipe replaced a cat or if it is a non-issue kind of missing component like a resonator....
Thanks for the response!
