Volant or AF1?

Which is preferred and why?

I have the 5.4 and Magnaflow 16614 Cat back.

Most people on this site go with the AF1..tested and proven..

I've noticed a lot about the 2 sites I frequent. You will have 2 products and each 1 is praised heavily on one of the sites and not the other. It is very confusing to the normal guy looking to mod his truck. One site claims AF1 is one of the best the other swears by Volant.

Are there any dyno results with both of these units being tested on a truck?
I'm sure you can't go wrong with either unit but hate spending money on something that either fails or doesn't live up to the hype.

I think troyer performance has some dyno test done and he say that the AF1 with magnaflow had the best results.. I know what you mean so many different opinions LOL

Another question is I guess is it really worth the 250-300 bucks for any CAI?

I have the catback and someday will add the tuner but will I see a big difference from the stock intake?

I know alot of people use CAI but just curious what I will be gaining by purchasing one.

I tend to agree. I don't think $250-300 for a CAI is worth it, HOWEVER, doesn't mean I didn't dig deep and buy one myself (AF1). I will say I'm quite impressed. I still have the stock exhaust and already I can tell a difference in tone and performance. I would recommend the AF1 to anyone looking for a CAI.

Hope this helps.

To get real performance out of an intake, especially on the new 5.4 3v, you need some tuning done. Troyer did the R&D work with AF1 to produce the best intake system for your F150.

So, by buying an AF1 and say the Edge...would not give me any gains? Or just not as much as the xcal?

Post My $.02

Depends on whom you talk to. Mike Troyer has done some great stuff tuning.
I have a Volant CAI & Edge EVO. Running level tune on a DYNO I get 289 RWHP at WOT.

I would like to know at what rpm were you making 289 rwhp, and what was your corresponding torque at this rpm??
I have never seen those numbers with an Edge and Volant combination, or any other combination of tuner and intake. And would you please tell me what brand of dyno you were on. And the AF's at this rpm also.. Thank you...

I have seen a low of 195 and a high of 215-220 rwhp in the stock form.. Rated 300hp at the crank but suffers an incredibly large loss through the drive line.. Most, and I say most 5.4 3v's with a good intake, exhaust, and an above average tuner can go between 240-265 or so rwhp..some a little less and very very few a little more. A/F's are critical on these motors....

So by spending another 700 bucks will I see a noticeable difference in performance with a CAI, and tuner to go with my catback?
