exhaust problem!!

i have a 97 4.6l v8 and we took the muffler off and just left the catalytic converters on in it wasnt loud at all, it sounded almost the same. has anybody else taken off their muffler and it still not be loud? i was thinking that it could be a catalytic converter problem but im not sure any ideas?

probably bis the cats, theres 2 main thats then beofre them theres 2 resonators quieting your truck down, tank them out & replace them with more 2.5" piping & get your 02 sensors mounted in the new piping & you can incrase your engine roar, or, replace all cats & get 2 highflow cats for even more increased sound.

i alos have a 97 4.6 and HAD to take the muffler off, or it was going to come off on its own, but it is quiet... until i put my foot in it. then it is pretty loud. louder than my 05 5.4 with a flowmaster.

With no muffler, hmmm, tough call, not quite sure. Since you have cats & as long as ur still running some exhaust I dont see why it wont. Then again you never know..

i dont have to have mine insected, but i am almost positive it will not pass if you remove the cats. i dont know about just not having a muffler. and i meant give it a lot of gas, pedal to the floor when i said put my foot in it.

Depending on what flowmaster you have, you probably won't notice much of a difference without it.

I ran a 97 4.6 with no mufflers and it wasn't anything like you would think it would be. Those cats knock the sound way back from open header like levels.
