K&N vs AF1

I'm sorry if this thread has been beaten to death already, I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I am teetering between an AirForce1 CAI and a K&N 57 CAI. I know a lot of people around this board love their AF1's, especially with an XCal2 w/ Troyer Tunes.

From doing some online shopping, I think i'd be able to get a K&N 57 for about $100 less than the AF1. With that being said, what are everyone's thoughts on if the additional $$ is worth it to go with the AF1.

Right now, I am running all stock except for my Flowmaster Super 40 exhaust. I do plan on adding a 6" Susp lift w/ 35's hopefully later this summer. I am still up in the air if i'll get a tuner or just try to get the dealer adjust my speedo.

Second that! I am on my third truck with K&N and I could not be happier. K&N has been around alot longer than those other companies. They have all tried to imitate K&N because of their good rep and racing heritage. Go with the original!

I really like my K&N. It gets a little better gas mileage and it sounds great too.

Here's a vote for the AF1, the 3" if you aren't going to tune, the 3.5" if you're getting tunes.

Love the sound and the power.

Wow, Thanks everyone for the quick responses! I've read a lot of people with the AF1's comment about the better throttle response.

K&N owners - same thing??

jb27 if you dont mind id like to add a few questions to your thread.

I notice they have a 57 and 77 series. The 77 series has the chrome tube were the 57 series is black. However the 57 series shows a higher HP gain.

pros and cons for each?

jb27 also have you found a site that has a good price for the K&N just curious? Im looking into one for a 2005 truck.

Thanks!

I am glad you asked this, as I to am wondering the same thing. From the little reading i've done, I think the 77 series is metal and the 57 series is plastic. I did read somewhere that plastic is better for not absorbing heat from the engine. I would guess that the cooler temp that the plastic (57) provides to the engine would maybe result in the additional hp increase??? Not sure, just guessing.

As for a good place to buy, check out performancepeddler.com. Best price i've seen in my looking around.

AF1 Performance here !! Great mod with my tunes. I have the 3.5" and could not be happier. Tuning these F150's is a definite must for all owners, whether focusing on performance or gas milage. These trucks benefit greatly from the tuning.

I really like the AF1 also. Bad thing is there out of stock on the 3" till middle of next week atleast plus shipping. Also same as jb27 here if I cand a K&N for $100.00 less that produces the same results I may take that route. I have the edge now so will have to stay will the 3" tube. Ive had issues with the light on it but otherwise I love it and the preformance it gives the truck!

jb27 that makes since what your saying the heat from the metal pipe may get hotter then the plasic so maybe were it gets its extra HP from the 57 model. Thanks for clearing that up for me! Even though I like the chome metal look! Dont forum members get a discount on buying parts from
performancepeddler.com??

Thanks

I run a K&N 77 series. It was the very first mod I did. Very happy with it. I went with K&N cause they've been around longer than the other companies making CAI for our trucks. I'm not knocking the other companies, I just felt more comfortable with them. It looks great and performs great.
