Shorty Headers

Can anyone weigh in on shorty headers for an '01 4.6L Supercrew? Pros and cons, do they really help and who makes good, better, and best? Will headers for a 5.4L work even though the deck height is taller?

Thanks.

5.4 headers will fit the motor but you would have to do some work to the rest of the pipes to get them to hook up to them.
You get a lot more power out of long tube headers.
Wont get much if any power out of the shortys.

With long tubes and high flow cats, your looking at 20-30 hp gain. With Shorties your gonna be lucky to get 5... The best long tubes for an '01 are the Dynatechs, a bit on the pricier side though, but you get what you pay for, and the quality is superb!

Shorty Headers

Hi Phil,

You looking to sell them? Next month I'm wanting to change out my manifolds for some shorty headers. I know that long tubes are the way to for the best return, but I'm just looking to step up some what from the inefficient scavenging of the manifold. My proposal on long tubes and cats to the wife failed due to high $$. Let me know what you have. I have 2000 Expy 5.4L.

Thanks,
Rob

No it's not true,,,,I just made it up hahahaha.
The 4.6 and 5.4 use exactly the same heads! So headers will fit both motors. But where you might run into problems is will the header fit in your truck. They could hit the frame or anything else that may be in the way.
