The dealership wants to charge me $1,500 for repairs. I have to have this for emissions. They say that there are 2 control arms , and a gasket that needs replaced. The tags run out in 6 days and I can't have the check engine light on to pass. Is there any advice? Are these guys full of it or can that cause this error code? A quick response would be greatly appriciated...

 

Control arms deal with your steering. That will not throw a code as far as I know.

Take it down to Autozone or Advanced Auto and ask what the code is. They do this for free and it will help you narrow it down to the problem. Could be something as simple as an 02 sensor that needs replaced.

 

For Code P1538 your intake will have to be removed to check the intake manifold runner control module. It is probably stuck closed from carbon buildup.
