K&N FIPK Questions??

Has anyone else had issues trying to get the wiring bundles to fasten to the stock airbox studs as indicated in the K&N intructions? It seems to me that it is not correct or "clean", I just dont want anything to be half-*@& on my rig. Also, can I cut the crank case ventilation pipe from the valve cover to the intake tube down to the length of the stock tube? They provided about a foot too much, but dont mention being able to trim to fit.

One last question, is there a torque specification for the bolts securing the throttle body to the K&N adapter? I feel like I may have overtightend them...

So far so good though, I have a noticable increase in throttle response (and noise). Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm happy with it so far, it took a little longer to install than I expected, lots of little steps. I hope it pays off. There are several adjustment points that would make this a good option for a body lifted rig.

i installed the K&N FIPK kit by myself with a buddy, and everything seemed to fit perfectly. we didnt need to trim any hoses, just the little rubber surrounding the heat shield. the only problem i had was when we finished i forgot to re-attach the electric throttle cord, so when i started it up and pressed the gas, there was no rev. i got kinda scared untill my buddy noticed it not attached. but as far as installation i didnt notice anything wrong or not-fitting. love the sound and performance! im sure you will too

I do love the sound, I'm looking forward ot any other gains that come. How often do you need to re-check the bolts, clamps, etc on the new parts?

You should be able to cut the tube that goes to the valve cover to make it a reasonable length with no problem. It's just a vaccum line.

The wiring bundle you mention would be your MAF sensor and it's actually very important that your MAF is in the same position/orientation as it was with your stock intake assembly. If it's not in the same place you're going to experience some rough idle, bogging, all sorts of crap.

Easy to fix, just make sure it's the same postion as it was stock.

I don't have a K&N, AF1 here, but I always check the bolts, connections every time I pop the hood and nothing has ever been loose. Just tighten everything "tight", no reason to break off a wrench or screwdiver.. just make sure it's tight and I think you'll be good..

Thanks, you know how it goes when you first change something on your rig... It takes some time to build confidence in it. I'll make sure the MAF is correct.

Hey AustinFX4

I installed the K&N GEN2 FIPK about a month ago. I know what wiring
bundle your talking about and it's not your MAFS, your talking about
the wiring that the kit tells you to mount back on the stock studs.
When I re-installed the two studs the kit says to, I couldn't exactly
figure out what it was they were using to mount the wires to(the pic
they have is very misleading and doesn't even look right!). My wiring
setup had the two pinch style clips that only fit around something
flat like on the stock setup with the huge restrictive "AIR BOX
BARRIER" Ford installs, not like the picture shows in their
instructions. I just made sure nothing was rattling around, and
everything else seemed to fit tight. As for torque specs I had the
same question at install. I would call K&N but it's a Sunday and
their open 8am-4pm Mon-Thurs, and then something strange on Fridays,
must be nice in Riverside Cali, huh? I'm going to call tomorrow now
that you have experienced the same questions, thanks for reminding me!
As for the breather tube to the valves, I cut mine down. The one
thing that bothers me is the kit doesn't come with a gasket to seal to
the manifold, after rebuilding the throttle body onto the U pipe
extension I was surprised to find that their wasn't one in the kit,
it's not even built to accept one! That's why the torque specs mean a
lot to me. My problem was with my MAFS after the install.

Things are coolio now. I would check on the bolts from time to time
though. Within the first two weeks I was constantly re-tightening
everything. It's kind of a rattletrap in there!

Thanks, that is exactly the wiring I was referring to. I ended up just securing them to the stock posts with a zip tie... I hope that I dont have the same MAF problems. So far, so good. The sound has become a bit of an annoyance, I'll give it a few more weeks to decide if it'll stay in or not.

I'll tell you what though, in the city, I've been getting 12.2MPG avg now!!!
Don't know why this is happening. Nothing is mechanically wrong. No check lights. No weird idle probs, no stop-start issues, everything seems to be fine. Just horrible city miles.
