The majority choices are as follows:

14" - 12226
18" - 12256
22" - 12586

The shorter the muffler, the louder (and more drone potential). I read one place that placing it as far rearward as possible helps with drone. Don't know if it's true.

I have a 22" in the garage awaiting install. Looking for better tone, slightly louder than stock, but not obnoxious while towing. This was Magnaflow's suggestion when I called, and seemed to be the consensus in my board research.

Take a look here, here, and here for threads with more info. (And you might want to SEARCH for yourself.)

Ya that is a good choice!!
Also it may be esier to do if you have stock exhaust to get the round muffler instead of the oval.

FWIW, Magnaflow recommended the center-offset oval.

hey everyone,

i've got a 98 F150 and am looking to get a 14" magnaflow. I'm not sure how i should order my muffler. there are all different combos for having the exhaust enter and exit the muffler, and i'm not sure which one is correct for my setup. Also, do i want 2.25" or 2.5" for the tubing size? i thought one made the truck loose backpressure? I'm just dumping the exhaust so i dont need to worry about pipes going out to the rear or anything. Thanks guys for your help, sorry i'm a little confused.

Delta17 I would go with a SI/SO and the inlet should be 3" and the out can be anything since you are going to dump it. You might want to go with the 2.5" out just incase you ever want to run the muffler back out the side of the truck again.

Not to hijack this guys thread but, whats the diff between getting a magnaflow catback kit or just getting a muffler and having a muffler shop do the pipes?

Where do you get 3" in? Everything Magnaflow recommended to me was 2.5"
