X pipe

An X pipe helps balance the back pressure like an H pipe and also scavenges the exhaust to help the engine breathe better, plus the type of muffler you run on your truck also adds to the sound you get from the X,like the sound you hear when a Mustang or Cobra drives by.There are many good Xipes out there,Magnaflow,I run a Bassani and a company called Dr.Gas makes custom X pipes, send them the dimensions of the pipe and they'll custom fab one for you, check them out, their web site is pretty cool.hope this helped, good luck.

No. An x-pipe will actually make your exhaust a little quieter and "more toned" (no popping).

My brother's '97 makes all kinds of interesting popping sounds with true dual straightpipes. My truck with glasspacks pops a little coming back down to idle at startup or after revving it up, nothing like his but still neat.

Yep, true dual straight pipes will give you that loud popping.

Kind of like how some people spend hundreds of dollars on a exhaust that is just a tad louder than stock to gain 5hp. Everybody is into something a little different.

For some reason I have a feeling that was directed at me... if it wasn't, my bad! If it was? I guess you haven't heard a Magnaflow system recently...it's night and day different from stock

Nope not at all, just a general statement.

From the purely sound aspect an 'X' pipe will make your exhaust note sound better by connecting all 8 of the cylinders.

It is especially bad if you have side exit dual exhaust (opposite sides). Then the exhaust note will sound more like a 4 cylinder on each side. The X pipe eliminates this.

Not quite, a 4 banger at any RPM has twice as many exhaust pulses as a single bank of a V-8 at the same RPM. I have never heard a V-8 truck that sounded anything like a four banger.
