s&b vs af1

I am trying to decide which intake to get. At first i was going to go with the 3in af1 for my 5.4 2006 scab, but i've heard good things on here about the s&b. Now i can't decide. I want the 3in because i don't want to run into probs with a lean and have to get tunes. does the s&b need tunes and cause a lean? thanx guys, i would also like to hear if anyone is running aftermarket exhaust with it.

Im most cases, yes.

Folks who tell you 'no', simply haven't measured this, so they can't say that with any certainty.

Every truck is different so if you start changing intake and exhaust you can alter your a/f. I have the S&B, Edge and Magnaflow si/so and love the set up.

The s&b def. looks real nice. I was really wanting one until hearing you need to custom tune your truck around it. If you run the S&B with the Edge tunes, will it work well? Or are you better off calling Troyer? Hows your set-up workin out for oyu supercrew? you have anything to measure you a/f ratio? Anyone else running S&B intake ?

Man that looks SWEET. Thanks Supercrew. You have a damn nice ride. I was looking in your gallery, I saw that Pioneer D-3 unit. You install yourself? How complex and is that "back up camera" capable? (sorry, just a bit off topic)

I had a place install it with the by-pass switch. I havent picked up a camera yet. The unit it self is great. Definitly recommend it. Thanks on the complement.

Hey jcfx4king give me an email about the S&B Intake. I tried to email you but you don't accept email messages.

HHMM. Interesting topic. If you're planning on going with a custom tune anyway and you can correct the A/F from the S&B then I guess the question is the AF1 worth the extra $75 over the S & B. I've been leaning towards the S & B myself.

Even if it nets another 3hp, is it worth $75 for that?

It's not just about peak power - it's about area under the curve.

I understand. Is AF1 power overall under the curve THAT much better than S & B's? Have both ever been tested with corrective tuning?

Yup. You'd need to call TP for that data though.

They've got MAF transfer functions already written for both and will support either one - and several others.

You can only do that if you do a ton of testing.

MGDfan,

If I did end up going with an AF1 3.5" intake but had it tuned by someone other than Troyer, is the A/F the only thing you have to dial in correctly?

Pretty much. For example, if you get tuning for a 3" AF1, then decide to upgrade the tube to a 3.5", the only real change that is made is the MAF TF gets replaced with the correct one for the new intake.

Note that this I possible with a mail-order tune only if the variables are known
