Header Questions

I currently run the JBA SISO cat back performance exhaust. There is a noticeable difference in power on the freeway, however I am sure I have lost a little on the low end. My I hope to have the gears in the truck by Nov 5th. I decided on 3.73s a while back but I have been out of town on business. A lot of cats reccommend the 4.10s but I don't know know if I am going to like the sound of the truck in that RPM range at 65 - 70 MPH. I am kind of leary of the 3.73s because the drive train has operated with the 3.08 for so long, i.e. i'll be spinning the motor higher for long durations and she has 159k on her now. Will that matter? She runs perfect and I have put the last 100k on her. The first owner babied the truck as far as we can tell and it runs as good as the day I bought it. The hypertech 93 tuning has made a big difference as well and I know troyer does good work but I cant imagine his tunes bringing about that much more performance for the extra $150 over the hypertech I paid $279 (or less, but definately not more) for a year ago.
This is the EXHAUST thread so here is my question.
Does the manufcturer of the header make a huge difference in the gains I can expect? For example, JBA has some beautiful Headers for about $600. Jegs has a set of hedman headers for $275. Both report similar gains and the collection tubes and construciton seem to be identical. Any suggestions/testimonies sound great. I dont want to spend more than $300 on the set.

i'd say go with pacesetter long tube headers. long tubes give a ton more power, and the pacesetters are pretty high quality for a low price. check them out

Long tube vs. Shorties

What are the gains to running long tube headers? WHat are the differences between the two? How do long tubeheaders develop more power?
Thanks for the reccommendation!

longtubes have longer manifold tubes, making them straight instead of shorties which are curved to fit into a single pipe in a shorter space. the longer, straighter tubes allow for higher exhaust velocity, and less restriction on the airflow, allowing the engine to breathe better and provide more power output.

they will give you a very nice exhaust sound too, making your exhaust system much throatier, not to mention the excellent power increases.

Wouldn't waste my time with shorties. Go for the long tubes.
