Is there actually two converters in-line, the front one sounds hollow campared to the back one. I would like to get some better performance as well as some really nice sound, can I do anything with the converters in line?

 

I can't answer all your questions... but fwiw I have an 88 (300 6) and it has two cats, inline I believe.
